- Q:rug is wool. its new. it costs 80 dollars to clean with the company.. id rather do it by hand.what besides hot water and a rug.. do i put on it to clean it by hand?
- Check the backside of the wool rug for instructions, you'll find them on a sticky tag in the corner. Here you should be able to locate an 800 phone number. Call this number and ask for advice. For your own information, wool is cleaned with lukewarm water and a very gentle low PH soap. One of my customers brought me a $500.00 dollar wool area rug that smelled like burnt plastic. I cleaned it and aired it out for several weeks. It still smells. The 800 number in this case was of no use, as the manufacturer had no idea what was going on. If your rug still smells after a couple of weeks, take it back to the store and ask for a refund. Should let you know, in case you have a dog in the house, that they sometimes sense a competitive situation and mark the rug with urine. They will do this numerous times, not realizing the animal was a sheep. Keep it clean if you want to return it.

- Bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) is great for absorbing odours. Sprinkle on the rug (the reverse as well as the front if necessary) leave for a couple of hours and vacuum off. You can also put a few drops of your favourite essential oil onto the rug to freshen up the smell. Also, as daft as it sounds, to get rid of chemical smells from the room itself such as glue, paint etc peel an onion, chop it in half and cover it with water, leave it in the room overnight and it will absorb the smell (don't ask me why this works but it does!) - Most people don't remove the old tack strips, however the old ones depending on how long they've been in place, can sometimes be worn. The wood can get a little weak or the tacks themselves may not hold the new carpet in place depending on the type of backing on the new carpet. You may also want to consider removing the old padding simply because of the amount of dirt and liquids that may have been absorbed over the years. When it comes down to it, it's about how much you can budget to the project.

- Remove urine stains with a sponge dipped in cold water. Wet the sponge pad gently, wipe it gently from the middle edge of the urine stain, or immediately dilute the urine with soda water. Apply some water detergent and a few drops of ammonia water at the urine stain. Silk and wool are not to be treated with ammonia Cover urine stains with a water absorbent pad impregnated with a water-based detergent. Cover time enough to clear all urine stains. When the absorbent pad absorbs urine stains, replace it. To maintain the water pad and urine stains are soaked with water-based detergents and ammonia. Then rinse with clean water (that is, pass the stain in the past, remove some of the dye and detergent residue), urine stains, and then daub some water detergents and a few drops of white vinegar. Wash the fabric clean with water and repeat the process as needed. Last dry. When handling carpet, use Stain-X carpet detergent, Up&Out (not wool fabric) or Afta carpet detergent after all procedures.

- You can clean the carpet with the following process: 1) Vacuuming carpet for collection of all loose dirt particles. This step insures dirt and grime will not be ground into your carpet upon agitation. 2) Pre-spray application of our cleaning solution. The solution is applied evenly throughout the carpeted area. 3) Agitate the carpet. Agitating the carpet allows for the cleaning solution to really cleanse the carpet fibers. 4) Use hot water extraction with the equipment. The extraction allows for a deep thorough rinse of all carpet fibers. 5) Do some beautiful grooming of the carpet. Giving the carpet a newer appearance look.
