Q:whenever i try to connect two electrical wires by twisting them together, i hold the two wires paralell to eachother, grab them with needle nose pliers and turn it. it never seems to work though! if anything, it just breaks the wire and i have to strip more insulation! what am i doing wrong? thx
You are doing it right but do not use needle nose pliers. Use ordinary pliers or linesman pliers are the best. Grab the two wires straight on - not sideways - with the pliers down at the insulation and move the pliers to the end of the wire as you twist it. If it is too long or uneven snip it off.
Q:I am wiring a cd player in my truck is it necessary to get a wire harness that is made for the year make and model of my truck or can I just cut the factory terminals off and just connect the like colors?
While a wiring harness isn't strictly necessary, It's highly recommended. The wiring color code on an aftermarket head unit will match up properly with a vehicle-specific wiring harness. The wire colors of your vehicle wiring will NOT be the same as the wire colors on your aftermarket unit. You have to match the wires up according to function, not according to color.
Q:The house was built in the 50's. Two wires are coming up from the switch and two wires are coming down from the top of the wall. I do not see a third wire. I attached the wall light wires left wires to left wires and right wires to right wires and light stayed on, when I moved the switch it threw the breaker. I think that 'ed' has given you good advice, if you know *nothing* about electrical wiring inside of the average home and about how two-way switching is wired. The two-way switch is designed for two wall switches at different locations from a common light or other electrical appliance to be able to turn the common appliance 'on' or 'off' independently from each other. Changing the position of either of the wall switches, cuts off the power to the appliance. And changing the position of either ONE of the switches will supply power again. If you've done any wiring before, you should be able to figure it out, but follow what 'ed' suggested if you can, just to be sure.

Since heat is measured in watts, and watts (W) =I^2R, where I=Current and R= resistance, then if you double the resistance of a wire (by making it twice as long) you also double the ammount of watts lost in the wire. Since watts equates to heat, this ammount of heat will make the wire hotter. If you use an extension lead, and wind it round a drum, it can get very hot indeed.
