Q:Are scandium revolvers as durable as steel?
You know, I've kind of wondered about that too. Admittedly Scandium is a rather durable material, no contest there... but from the perspective of a machinist who has played with said Scandium in the past... it seems to *flake* on the blanchard grinders... hell, even fly cutting it acts kinda weird. I like steel because it's predictable, it has a fatigue point that is predictable... and when that fatigue point is met (limits of elastic modulus met by repetitive stress/strain exertions) it's fairly obvious. You get cracking, warping, and sometimes stretch marks... (yes, you can get *stretch marks* on steel). Scandium... I don't know. I don't know if it'll start cracking when it finally fatigues... or if it'll just let go all at once. Anyways, I don't think I'd worry too much about your revolver. It'll hold up I'm very sure (they've been around for years and people have put many, many rounds through them). Call me odd, but I'm a fan of steel. It's conventional, inexpensive (relatively speaking), and utterly durable.
Q:Polishing stainless steel (revolver)?
I use Mothers Mag polish also. The shine you get depends on the effort.... If you buffed a mirror finish it will dull in time... More work brings it back. On a SW you won't take off enough to make any difference as far as metal holding oil. I use a little Mothers whenever I clean my stainless revolver.... Takes the carbon ring off the cylinder face... I use old cotton socks and t shirts. You could use a Dremel to work the mag wheel polish if you want a bright finish.

Q:question on fatigue testing of steels?
because metals, like steel, are ductile and will stretch before breaking. Straining the metal is stretching it, stressing the metal is applying a shearing force or bending until there is an actual metal failure. A sheet metal strap 1inch across and 24 gauge metal is commonly used to support metal ducting systems in construction. These have an average strain to failure weight load as high as 16,200 lbs. As reported by the smacna index, they will safely hold 6800 pounds. Of more interest is the screws used to hold the strap to the duct. While they are grade 3, fairly strong, they strain to 1400 pounds when properly installed, and are safely able to support 650 pounds, unless they are overtorqued (stripped) and this quickly drops to 400 pounds and 125 pounds...big difference.
Q:A steel rod AISI 1040....?
A rule of thumb for endurance limits of steel with Sut 200 ksi is that S'e = 0.504 x Sut, thus for your case that would be 113 x .504 = 56.95 ksi (endurance limit is defined as fatigue life greater than 10^6 cycles)
Q:How to refinish stainless steel appliance?
Go over the entire surface with wet/dry sandpaper with the grain. Use wet with a little dish detergent. Remove the handles and name plates first. Start with 400, then 600, and then 800. Auto supply should sell the sandpaper. After final sanding, wax with carnuba wax and polish. Works on aluminum and real stainless not painted surfaces.
Q:What is Damascus steel.?
Damascus or Wootz was a type of steel that appeared around 300BC It originated in India before spreading throughout Asia and the Middle East. It was considered a good steel, and for it's date of origin, exceptionally advanced for the level of technology in the ancient world. However the techniques to create the steel were lost forever after a decline in the swords manufacturing. The most popular theory is that the metal containing the required trace elements became less available over time due to unreliable trade routes. In the modern area, many scientists and metallurgists have studied the surviving blades, resulting in many discoveries such as evidence of carbon molecules fused in a crystalline structure. While the blades do provide some clues, it's only a small part of a much bigger picture as to the full process of the metal from raw to finished product. Now many have claimed to have recreated Damascus/Wootz steel, but none are recognised as being authentic. It has become a market ploy these days that draws people to purchasing the blades but all you are actually seeing is one of the many various forms of folded or patterned steel, which has varying degrees of quality, strength etc. We do know the steel was folded similar to the way the Japanese did in creation of old Katana, so often people will sell Damascus steel Katana that are nothing but folded steel swords like others. (Which is beautiful and traditional, but was a process designed to uniform impurities in the metal, something we no longer need to do with modern metals)

Q:Measures to prevent cold rolling of packaged cold rolled steel coils? Who can give some professional opinions oh?
In order to prevent rusting in the process of storage or transportation of steel roll, steel mills generally take the following packing: inner gas antirust paper wrapped with tape wrapped in plastic film sealing, intermediate, involute cardboard seal lining, cardboard corner, with iron and steel outer package corner protector, strapping fixed. If the inner package seal, so the steel coil is sank into the water, will not rust out.
