Q:Last december I got a car which has been stored in a garage for about 5 years, but it's been taken out now and then to make it run a little. When I bought it the steering wheel was very wobbly, so I got some new tires. When I got the tires on the tire repairer told me the rims were pretty bent. So after a couple of months I got some new rims as well. After I got the new rims the steering wheel still was a very little bit wobbly sometimes. Of course I did a wheel alignment as well.I just had a job done which required a cv joint to be removed, and I went for a drive. The steering wheel again is very wobbly at about 100kph, and SOMETIMES it wobbles very badly when braking. I'll probably do another wheel alignment, but what am I looking for exactly? Are the wheel bearings gone?

Steering Wheel Play The most common of all problems in a steering system is excessive steering wheel play. Steering wheel play is normally caused by worn ball sockets, worn idler arm, or too much clearance in the steering gearbox. Typically, you shou Id not be able to turn the steering wheel more than 1 1/ 2 inches without causing the front wheels to move. If the steering wheel rotates excessively, a serious steering problem exists. An effective way to check for play in the steering linkage or rack-and-pinion mechanism is by the dry-park test. With the full weight of the vehicle on the front wheels, have someone move the steering wheel from side to side while you examine the steering system for looseness. Start your inspection at the steering column shaft and work your way to the tie-rod ends. Ensure that the movement of one component causes an equal amount of movement of the adjoining component. Watch for ball studs that wiggle in their sockets. With a rack-and-pinion steering system, squeeze the rubber boots and feel the inner tie rod to detect wear. If the tie rod moves sideways in relation to the rack, the socket is worn and should be replaced. Another way of inspecting the steering system involves moving the steering components and front wheel BY HAND. With the steering wheel locked, raise the vehicle and place it on jack stands. Then force the front wheels right and left while checking for component looseness.

Hi most guys who know about such things will tell you a wheel spacer puts unrealistic strain on the suspension. so there is a chance of the suspension failing. as mention by thebax20 he knows exactly what extra tension it puts on wheel studs which hold the wheels on my stupid brother did exactly this and when one his rear wheels overtook him going down the hill and a grinding noise from the rear of the car it became obvious that wheel had fallen off as the rear wheel studs had snapped off.
Q:1999 Ford Explorer, everything worked fine. Recently had a lot of front end parts repaired.Today I replaced the rotors, pads and caliper brackets (all brand new parts) on the front wheels. After this, the steering wheel and front wheels vibrate when turning whether the car is in park, stopped with the brakes applied or moving.
