Q:A list of like the top energy sources with fuel cells would be really great.
At the bottom. Don't get me wrong, I think that fuel cells will be important in future technology, but they aren't a fuel SOURCE. There are no vast reserves of hydrogen, like there are/were of oil, waiting to be tapped. Fuel cells are a form of energy storage, a clean burning fuel, as it were. They are batteries. They can make use of energy created by other sources, renewable or not. Sorry, I don't have a list of renewable energy sources, to show ranking, but in the exact sense of the wording, as I have already beaten to death, fuel cells are not a renewable energy source.
Q:Hydrogen fuel cells pumping water into the air is bad. It is a worse greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide, and some other stuff coming out of hydrogen cars will do even worse dammage to the O-zone than CFCs.
no way! water is harmful, definately, next time u c water, RUUUUUUUUN FOR UR LIFE!!!!!!!!! wats the logic to that? and gimme the chemical reaction that H2O destroys O3
Q:Are BEVs or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles a more promising transportation technology for the future? Should car companies be required to produce electric cars?
We have only one driver and that could be zero, by 2017, so we need one mid size SUV or equivalent. BEV battery electric vehicle won't go 400 miles without hours of charging, but a hybrid would work. A used electric hybrid would be considered, if our present vehicle fails.
Q:What is the fuel cell plus dc-dc converter?
Step up and down! DCDC's main role is to step-down, if the battery I think it is energy feedback, the fuel cell depends on whether the other role, and there may be insufficient power or what the power generation.
Q:I'm a bit confusedIf it takes electrical energy to produce hydrogen for hydrogen fuel cellswhy not store the electrical energy directly into the fuel cell?
relies upon on what sort of gasoline cellular. some comes from electrolysis of water, some from organic gas, some from coal and a few even from heavy gasoline oil- maximum any hydrocarbon could be used. The benefit over basically burning the hydrocarbon is that simpler skill is captured from a gasoline cellular instead of maximum of it basically being wasted as warmth.
Q:I understand that the lower grille is usually used to increase aerodynamics, but, on a car that has a hydrogen fuel cell, would an upper grille (like the main grille) be necessary like it is on petrol-powered vehicles?
Petrol engines get very hot. They are air cooled through a heat exchanger that we commonly call a radiator. A hydrogen fuel cell car is essentially an electric car that gets its electricity through a hydrogen fuel cell. Fuel cells can run warm and could use some climate control. They typically also use some oxygen from the air but both of these situations could be handled in a number of alternative ways. So not necessarily.
Q:I'm doing a big science assignment and I need to know the cost per kilowatt hour of different energy sources. I'm trying to find the cost in ?/kilowatt of FEUL CELLS and I've been seeing, 5?, 6?, $30/kilowatt hour and I read that some people are trying to reduce the cost from about $10000 to $1000 okay…I'm hoping you can tell me the cost in ?/kilowatt. I'd actually prefer it written as something like, e.g., (4.0 - 5.7 ?/kilowatt). You didn't have to I only really need a good usually average cost. Sorry to make it complicated, lol.
*Once the fuel cell is paid for* the cost may be something like the difference in efficiency: If it costs $50/MW-hr (no cent on my keyboard) for electricity made from coal in a regular power station (30% efficient), then 3/5 that for electricity from a fuel cell that is 50% efficient. *Paying for the fuel cell* means interest rates and capital cost get involved. If interest rates are low, a fuel cell becomes economical because the difference in fuel costs have a long pay-back period to work. If interest rates are high, then the machine (fuel cell or ordinary power station) that costs least is the choice. Maintenance would also be afactor, with fuel cell probably being more reliable, but can be considered like fuel costs. eia.doe /cneaf/electricity may help with specific prices, which will depend on where you live and what kind of rate schedule you have (it costs less if you use at night, or are willing to accept interruptions of power on short notice) fossil.energy /programs/powers has, Today, the most widely deployed fuel cells cost about $4,500 per kilowatt; by contrast, a diesel generator costs $800 to $1,500 per kilowatt, and a natural gas turbine can be $400 per kilowatt or even less.
Q:Is the fuel cell a battery or a secondary battery?
Should not be, a battery does not say the secondary battery is repeatedly charged, fuel cell is actually a generator, you can charge fuel, even if the development of income.
Q:I have to write a 500 word essay for my science homework about why hydrogen fuel cells and biofuels could be better for the environment than fossil fuels and it due tomorrow! Please help me, I have no idea! Thanks, georgia x
Fossil fuels give off hellah emissions. Hydrogen fuel cells give off water. Nuff' said.
Q:I am a little confused. According to reasonable sources 1cm2 of fuel cell gives 0.5 watt at 0.6v. So trying to do a comparison with the needed power I did the old Watts Volts x Amps bit to try and get the right figure. But, according to that, the fuel cell cm2 is 0.3 amps and the power I need (15w at 30kv) is only 0.0005 amps. Now, I know fuel cells are efficient, but that does seem very far off reality. Does anyone know what the right figure would be for the fuel cell area?
You have an unusual application needing only 15 watts. A tesla coil design likely needs a minimum of about 6 volts dc, so you need 10 fuel cells in series instead of 50,000. Likely you need about 60 watts, as the tesla coil is only about 25% efficient. Another type (more efficient and lighter weight) of 6 vdc to 30,000 vdc converter is likely available, but very expensive. Perhaps you can build your own, if you can add one or two turns to a transformer designed for dental Xray machines, or a flyback transformer for an obsolete CRT color TV.You will need a voltage doubler circuit as the fly back transformers were not designed for much more than 20,000 volts ac peak voltage. Two lithium ion rechargeable cells (7 volts), will be lighter than the fuel cells, if you only need the 30,000 volts for a few minutes, between recharge. Neil
