Excavators are used in many ways:
Digging of trenches, holes, foundations
Material handling
Brush cutting with hydraulic attachments
Forestry work
Forestry mulching
Demolition
General grading/landscaping
Mining, especially, but not only open-pit mining
River dredging
Driving piles, in conjunction with a pile driver
Drilling shafts for footings and rock blasting, by use of an auger or
Hydraulic drill attachment
Hydraulic excavator capabilities have expanded far beyond excavation tasks with buckets. With the advent of hydraulic-powered attachments such as a breaker, a grapple or an auger, the excavator is frequently used in many applications other than excavation. Many excavators feature a quick coupler for simplified attachment mounting, increasing the machine's utilization on the jobsite. Excavators are usually employed together with loaders and bulldozers. Most wheeled, compact and some medium-sized (11 to 18-tonne) excavators have a backfill (or dozer) blade. This is a horizontal bulldozer-like blade attached to the undercarriage and is used for levelling and pushing removed material back into a hole.
- Q:I am stuck in the beginning of the level on round 14 after using the teleporter to upgrade my gun. The excavators are blocking me from getting back to the biodome. Do I just have to wait it out? Also, if they go away with time, is it by round or an actual timer?
- I believe it's time but they only leave at the end of a round.
- Q:There's a huge construction site (buildings being torn down) that I drive by on my way to work, and it's full of various heavy equipment. I'm fascinated by the excavators, because they remind me of giant, toothy quot;mouthsquot; on the end of long arms. It's also interesting to see how precisely they can chomp, lift and/or move things with their quot;jawsquot;. (I know, they're actually called buckets, heads and/or attachments, but I like the metaphor of mouths and jaws. *grin*)I was just curious how easy or difficult excavators are to operate? I'm guessing they're more challenging than some pieces of construction equipment. Hopefully at least some folks here have experience using them. Thanks and have a great weekend! :)
- wow....you sure have an obsession starting there...lol anyway, it's not too hard to get the basics down, how to move the different mechanisms, but you need to have lots of practice before you do anything that requires precision. One wrong move and all that horsepower can make big damage! And they're like most pieces of heavy equipment...they're very challenging to operate well. I have some experience pipelining, so I have seen lots of operators. Most have to have years of experience before they're really good. Its tough to get someone to show you how if you're not being paid....you can rent tiny ones at some rental places if you really want to give it a try! pick a wide open space, and remember, you have to have the ground searched for buried pipelines, electrical lines, phone, water and sewer, etc before you dig.
- Q:My wife and I would absolutely love to have an inground swimming pool in our back yard. When looking at cost... it seems it will end up being around $30,000. When seeing how expensive it was, we decided to check into pool kits where you can install them yourself. I find myself to be a handy man and wouldn't mind the labor. How hard is it to actually install one of these pools yourself?(all answers welcomed but someone with experience in this topic preferred)THANKS!!!

- Q:Having a problem to find the caterpillar 3066 to my 320 Lexcavator so maybe there is a different engine to fit with the 717674 ARRG number.
- Are you sure it's not 3306?
- Q:Does he have a designated area where it all piles up? I mean seriously, that has got to be one stinking mess of an island if he's just dropping loads where ever he pleases, and they aren't properly disposing of his fecal matter. Do you think those contruction excavators are sent in to load dump trucks which then distribute it to compost fields? Then it has me thinking, quot;is dog waste safe to use for composting?quot;
- It's a cartoon, so nobody will because it's not real.
- Q:how would you rate the quality of these mechines?
- You probably aren't going to get any serious answers in Polls and Surveys.
- Q:I own a JCB excavator and it has now ceased to operate. When the machine is put into gear nothing happens, like there is not enough power in it or something. Can anyone help?
- I've repaired loaders with smiler problems before, had to replace the nylon ring-gear that drives the torque-converter, are all the hydraulics inop as well?, what model do you own, need more info
- Q:I'm redoing my leopard gecko's (luetenant Dan) setup with more excavator. I already made in a cave (type thing) with a tunnel connected. I think he has outgrown it. How do I reuse excavator? Can I? And are there any techniques or tricks? I know that I can use a ballon (which I did)I have a 4 quart bag I got for $6. Luetanant Dan is in a 20 gallon tank.I would like to see your guys' set up using excavator :)
- I personally don't use Excavator because of the fact that it clumps when it gets wet, but crumbles when it gets too dry, giving the chance of being ingested by a leopard gecko. Once it gets ingested, it gets wet again and can cause impaction.
- Q:How to change tracks on bobcat excavator 435?
- Not sure on this model but track are tensioned using grease that is injected in a cylinder that's pushing on the front idler. Remove the grease zerk and you will need to compress the cylinder to loosen the tracks. There's a couple ways this could be done. One push them in with another piece of equipment or use the boom and push them in. The other way is use a 2 X 4 or 4 X 4 and insert it between the tracks and front idler wheel and run the tracks very slow this will compress the cylinder. Now you will need to find the main link it they are steel track or just pull the track off after you have rotated the boom around to that side and pushed down on the ground with it to raise the track off the ground. After installing the new track replace the grease zerk and fill with grease till you get the correct tent ion on the track.
