Q:My car (Toyota FJ Cruiser) has stock 265/75R16 tires. The closest size for winter tires i could find for it was 245/75R16. As I used the tire calculator thing, it said i have 3.8% difference in my speedometer. Is that a big deal for braking system or anything else?
Absolutely. It has to do with the friction on the size of the surface area of the tire hitting the road.
Q:Explain why it is important to check your brake fluid regularly, be sure to explain what happens to the fluid when you step on the brake of a car and how that fluid then acts to make the car slow down, then explain why it is important to make sure that your car always has an adequate supply of brake fluid.
it takes fluid before the brakes can work ! the master cylinder pushes the brake fluid to the calipers and the caliper pistons comes against the pads and the pads goes against the rotors to stop your car ! if you had no fluid then the master cylinder would have nothing to push !
Q:Just bought this truck and it shakes violently when you step on the brakes. Its like the breaks are grabbing and then not, then grabbing then not again. The slower the speed the slower the cycles. It feels extremely dangerous and i wont be driving it again until i get fix this problem.
warped rotors, you may not need a whole new brake system. Rotors and Pads and bleed the system. Lube the slide pins on the caliper and make sure the caliper is not leaking. Shop cost may be anywhere between 35 and 50 for each rotor and pads can be 20 to 60 for a set. Don't get the cheep pads, buy the middle of the road, cheep ones will squeal and be CHEEP. 35 for a decent set. A shop will charge you anywhere between 200 and 350 to do this. Don't let them put the cheep stuff on your car, you'll be back in less then 2 years at best!!!
Q:My two front brakes keep locking up and the brakes peddle keep getting hard what might be the problem ?
The least expensive thing you can do is to make sure your brake calipers are well lubricated. Inspect them if you're not sure. A brake caliper with no lubrication tends to bind itself to the rotor because there is no free movement for it to retract due to the brake dust that has accumulated on the sliding caliper bolts and pins. Check your power brake booster check valve and all the vacuum lines leading to it. Hope this helps, jess.
Q:I JUST bought a 2011 chevy cruze. Literally 3 days ago.And at first, everything was fine with it. But today I was driving it, and I go to stop and it starts bumping and I could smell rubber burn. Yes, it does have a button to put more traction on your wheels, and I turned it off. Yet on specific times I stopped it wouldn‘t, and it felt like it was trying to stop but wasn‘t getting traction. So does anyone know what could be the issue? I thought it was just the fact that it was new tires, but the first 2 days it was fine. I also don‘t have the emergency brake on. So I don‘t know?
Hope you're not driving with two feet one on gas other on brake this will overheat brakes. Car is new take it back to Dealer for check something may have been installed wrong. They should/will fix for free. Also suggest you read book that came with car so you understand what traction control is.
Q:What is the "brake power system failure"
Brake system to monitor the electrical failure, it is recommended to use the computer to read the specific fault code, only to facilitate the maintenance direction
Q:The front disc brake on my mountain bike has started trumpeting like an elephant (back does it a little bit, too). There‘s plenty of brake pad left, and it looks like the calipers are adjusted correctly.I even tried scuffing the glaze off the pads with a piece of sand paper, and they still honk like crazy. Is it just time to get new pads? They‘re about 2 years old.
its possible that the pads have been contaminated by oil or other lubricants. a technique that mechanics use to remove that is to bake the pads in an oven, i know it sounds strange but it does work. in your case i would just replace them, i mean they're a couple of years old as you said and it probably paid for itself by now.
Q:I replaced my rotors and my front calipers, then I had no pressure.(brakes) So then I bled them and bled them some more. Still nothing. So then I replaced the master cylinder. Then bled them and bled them and bled them. Still no brakes. What am I doing wrong. I have gone thru 3 bottles of DOT4. Please help.Chad
Start at the top and go down. Master cylinder first then front brakes then rear. Remember to close the bleeder valve before it stops squirting or you will suck in air. Also remember to ALWAYS pump your pedal after any brake work while the car is off to close the gap you created when you took them apart.
Q:I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant, a few months ago I put some 20in chrome rims on, (before I had 18s) but ever since I got them I feel like it‘s harder for me to come to a stop. It‘s not a huge difference but I feel it a little. With the 18s I never felt any type of lagging. Should I upgrade my brake system to handle the extra weight? Or do you think the car just can‘t handle the size rims I have? Or is this normal?
heavy rims and large tires increase rolling resistance, and require more effort to turn so yes they would need more braking effort to get stopped. You may want to consider a braking system upgrade to ffset the bigger wheels and tires. ( on another note. get your speedometer calibration checked.;larger tires can throw off your speedo by 5-10 mph or more, and I figure you'd rather hear about a ticket from some dork on a message board, than some guy with a badge.) enjoy your car.
Q:for the last month my chevy has been beeping 30 times and displaying ‘service brake system‘ on the dash, every time I start it up.Does anyone know why?
could take a day or two depending on where you take it. the job would pay for 6-10 hours so about a day or two after the parts arrive
