FAQ

My old plastic window is very old and it turned yellow form being under the sunI tried clenning it and nothing would work
Any shop that specializes in convertible tops should carry plastic window material.
is the space between the glass and the window seal important
I've lived in a few rentals where we had to weatherstrip the windows, and at no time did it ever occur to me that the landlord should pay for it. Weatherstripping is just part of living life in a colder climate. You don't need to pay outrageous amounts for expensive weatherstripping products. If the gap is an inch or two at the top of your window, just roll up some old towels or cleaning rags to fit into the gap. They'll stop the wind just as well as some plastic product you have to pay for at the hardware store, and your curtains or blinds will cover them anyway, so you don't have to care if it doesn't look too good. If the windows have an actual structural problem, though, so that they really can't be closed tightly enough to lock, you might try to convince the landlord to have repairs done based on the fact that they're a security hazard. (Yeah, I know, nobody's likely to break in to an attic, but you can at least try.)
Is plastic on my windows just as good a drapes for the winter?
why not both ! 3M product is really good ,very clear
Ok, I just moved in to my own apartment this past Spring, and it's an older duplex (with a lot of friggin windows-31 to be specific). So trying to keep the heat in this winter is a huge issue. I've heard of covering the windows with plastic to help, but I'm also looking at thermal shades (window quilts, etc.). My question would be which of these would keep more heat in? Or should I do both? (I would make my own if doing the quilts...so if anybody has any links to a really easy way to make them that would be very much appreciated as well! ) Money is tight, so I'm trying to avoid the problem to begin with..
I've had the same problem before. This is what I would do....I would do the plastic (There is some that you can use a hair dryer on to tighten up so it looks better and doesn't blow around). Once that is done I would do the quilts/blankets to be a bit more insulating. You could just tack them up inside the window frame or if you have curtain rods is even better. If it is an older place it could look really cute with quilts. Good Luck. sorry I don't have any links right now but I will keep my eyes peeled for you.
Will window chalk(window marker) come off of Soft top plastic windows?
NO!!! i just put on the window chalk paint on my cousins cars headlights during his wedding and now they are stained red! and whatever you do don't put it on the grill. it took the silver paint off that too!
97 Wrangler soft top. I scratched the plastic up and would like to polish it out. Any tips?
I've had some luck with Meguiars Clear Plastic Cleaner and Polish, if the scratches are not too deep.
they are white and look dingy
I have used a product called GOO Gone to remove the sticky residue left over from the plastic overlayment. I agree with the lady above have used Mean Green a lot and does a wonderful job . I have never used it on window, but have used it on patio furniture and on greases clothes. My Grandma also swear by vinegar and newspaper to clean a window to a perfect shine. After using Mean Green you will probably have to use something like Windex to get rid of the strike. Hope this helps
Can YOUHOOS at Yahoos give me an idea where I can find a sheetof heavy clear/ or even transparent plastic to put over my window thatnot like this cheap garbage I used from Frost King at home depot.. The last stuff came from a roll and was heavy duty and I don't need a roll of it, I'm just drawing a blank here. And this boxed up stuff sold in cheap discount stores really is garbage 1 mil junk.. Oh, and yes, this is their outdoor stuff , not the shrink indoor kit.... The window is about 4 ft x 6 ft..... 1950 era.....(hence the need for plastic ). I've got a few smaller as well... Thank You hoos....
Heavy Clear Plastic
