FAQ

How do I find roofers who are specialised in protection against invaders from outer space. I called 10 and they said they would call me back, but no one did so far. It must be really complicated.
Make a hat out of tin foil like some of the people in the mental hospital do. No roofer in his right mind would go near your house if you tell him this outlandish story you claim to be circulating about space invaders. Mentally unstable people tend to scare normal folks away in droves, see a therapist or get a new joke writer because I'm not buying it either.
Like how does it get put in your roof?I am doing this energy efficient house.Other Questions:What is an Eave?Whats the roof on top of a patio called? What does orientation mean? What are the good things about French doors?
It can be blown in or more often it comes in large bagged bales and you cut and dump in the attic. The eaves are the portion of the roof that overhangs/extends past the wall. It's usually called a patio cover Orientation is how the home (or other structure) is positioned on the lot. They let in lots of light and are very attractive.
we want to put a model railway up in the loft, and i like the idea of having white plastic cladding throughout up there,my hubby is insulating the roof tomorrow, but he prefers plasterboard,at least the cladding will be maintenance free,
i think it might be able to pass code if you ever sell the house.i myself would use sheets of white wainscoting.also make sure the insulation if it has a paper backing ,paper faces the room.
I have a converted loft which is really cold. The roof doesn't have any insulation, just a waterproof sheet, but i don't want to spend too much insulating it with the proper boards. If i use mineral wool and staple it across the roof trusses will it do a good job?
Yes, be sure to leave an air space between the top of the insulation and the roof deck to allow for ventilation, and use a vapor barrier on the interior side of the insulation.
i have roof insulation but if i add more to the required depth the bottom layer will get compressed. Will it still insulate?
Theoretically yes, the insulation is more dense at the base because of the additional weight, but unless you physically press it, it is normal. Use blown-in cellulose, it is cheaper and more efficient than fiberglass batts! You cannot dead-press insulation until you get in the R-50 to 60 range (depends on the manufacturer), they will all give you a maximum depth measurement on the packaging.
the best way to thermal insulate and water proofing of rcc slabs economical, may be some poly urethane material or whatever but should be very effective and light weight.
use a polythene sheet . i dont know about where u live but where i live we get very long and broad size thick polythene sheets to make shelter or the protect from rain . even poor ppl use it to make slums . they attach a sheet in bamboo and they bury half of that bamboo stick inside the ground and by arranging 4 of them like this in a square area they make a bamboo frame. then as i said they attach sheet and make temporary home but they live there for years.
were can i buy material to insulate pans and instructions to install it? I have seen many roofs with this done ,but , the lowe,s and home depots don't have .
I think your problem is in the way you are asking the question. I for one do not know what you mean by a metal pan roof. I know all about steel roofs or corrugated roofs and a lot of other roofs but what is a metal pan?
attic is 400 sq ft.there are 4 round 6'' Vents in soffit, and 2 roof vents-12"x12".Rock wool, blown in,R/30 NO VAPOR BARRIER.Why the mold?no gable or ridge vent either. How do i fix this? There are baffles in attic, rafters are not blocked.
You still don't have enough attic ventilation. Definitely need more soffit vents. Roof mounted turbine vents that turn in the wind help suck more air through the attic. This coupled with at least one gable end vent should stop further mold. Removing old mold is a hassle, but can be done using diluted bleach in a lawn pump sprayer. A respirator will be needed to ensure you can breathe while applying the bleach solution.
