- Go to a computer store (not a chain store that sells computers) and tell them you want a cross over network cable so that you can plug the two together without a router. Plug them together, turn on file sharing (why does Windows require a reboot when you turn on file sharing?), and then copy the files via that network. The crossover cable will cost about $20. Most likely less unless the store makes it themselves and over-values their labor.

- Q: I got a Garmin nüvi270 for Christmas. When I connect it to my computer it powers itself down. Customer support told me this happens because I am using an incompatible USB cable. - This does sound like bovine excrement - mini USB is mini USB. however, from Personal experience, some mini USB cables work - some do not. best one to use with a picky device is a short, fat cable.

- The transfer cable will not transfer music. There's no way of moving music without just re-ripping it.

- It sounds like you have most everything hooked up correctly, but try this. First make sure you are using a cross-over. If it has a label for a cross-over, great! If it has no label, look at the ends (clip side down), the colors of the tiny wires inside should not be the same on both side (as in not the exact same order), if they are the same, then you have a straight through cable and not a cross over. (The colors of the wires should be something like Orange-White, Orange, Green-white, Blue, Blue-whie, Green, Brown-White, Brown, not necessarily in this order ***The -white means it is usually has a white stripe or a white twist with the color, some cables are hard to see the whites) The ip's you have listed should work. Just for simplicity, make sure the subnets are the same too, 255.255.255.0 Dont worry about using network places. instead, do this. Go, Start/Run/ at the run window type CMD then enter This should give you a dos prompt From the 192.168.0.1 machine type the following at the command prompt ping 192.168.0.2 If it pings then you have a connection to the other machine. If it fails, then check your cable, and make sure you have network lights on both machines. Also make sure the firewall is off on both machines as this can stop pings and possibly stop shared connections. If it does ping, then proceed to the start/run again and type \192.168.0.2 (just like you did previously), this should open a window showing the PC and any shared folders. Be aware that on many machines you might have to login or share out the folder from the .2 machine to see it. You can also try using \192.168.0.2c$ or \192.168.0.2d$ in the last part, this should open the default share to the respective drives. Good luck

- You won't see any data because the need to break in a cable is usually claimed in listening tests rather than technical tests. It might be possible to measure changes to the insulation and wire due to aging/environmental exposure -- outgassing from the cable insulation, oxidation of the wire, mild heating of the insulation, etc. I have never seen any data that any of those occurrences can be shown to be directly responsible for a measurable change in audio response of a cable. The cables, like anything, will change over time -- but can anyone really hear the difference, and, is the difference really bad? It could be possible that a listener might be able to detect a small change in delay time for a well-know test sample. Making a declaration of good or bad on the simple change in delay would seem to be a factor of the listener's attitude rather than a measurable quantity. Many of the audio reviewers are said to have golden ears, which is another way of saying they agree on what sounds perfect. But, just because a group says their version of perfect is the truth doesn't make it so. Since 99.99% of the people can't hear what the golden ears are talking about, is it worth spending the $$$$ to achieve it? 99.99% of the people don't seem to think so. And, even if you can hear it, is it really bad or just different? I'd vote for different, but I'm not selling magazine reviews or audio equipment.
