- Q: What is the minimum thickness of a steel coil?
- The minimum thickness of a steel coil can vary depending on the specific grade and type of steel being used, as well as the manufacturing process. However, generally speaking, the minimum thickness of a steel coil is typically around 0.001 inches (0.0254 millimeters). It is important to note that this value is a general guideline and can vary based on the specific requirements and standards set by the industry or application.
- Q: How are steel coils welded together?
- Steel coils are typically welded together using one of two methods: either by resistance welding or by arc welding. In resistance welding, the coils are pressed together and an electric current is passed through them, generating heat and causing the coils to fuse together. Arc welding, on the other hand, involves the use of an electric arc that melts the edges of the coils, creating a molten pool. As the pool solidifies, the coils bond together, forming a strong weld. Both methods ensure a secure and durable connection between the steel coils.
- Q: Steel seems to be much less expensive. What is the reason why? I've heard steel will ruin a barrel after time....is that true? But with the price difference maybe it don't matter? Is steel reliable? What are the negatives about steel I should know before buying?
- I guess you dont get out much or read the news. Brass - is mostly copper. And ever since the earthquake that decimated the west coast of South America 3 or 4 years ago and crippled the biggest copper producing area in the world - anythng made with copper - wire, buss bars, brass items etc, the cost has gone up 5x and not really gone back to what they were. The steel - is in the case, not the bullet. So, your worries about ruining the barrel are unfounded. The only drawback to steel case ammo - they are coated with a lacquor to prevent rust - is when you go burn off 3 or more mags in quick secession and then leave a live one in the chamber. The quick firing will heat up the barrel - enough to melt the lacquor. Leave a live round in it - it wont come out without firing. Onced this happens - excellent chance all the next rounds will jam until you clean the chamber with mineral spirits or other solvent and a brass brush. Like all things in life - when you use the generic product in 'moderation' things work ok. The only time you will be unhappy to have bought steel case ammo - is when you decide to reload. You cant handload steel - only brass does this. And smart people who are preppers and do not reload but rely on a 5.56mm rifle for protection - save thier brass. Because some day their might be an ammo shortage - I know, it's a stretch and will never happen - and having that reloadable brass means they can make more. You put 2 or 3 pounds of 4198 powder and one brick of small rifle primers in a cool dry place - this would be an even smarter thing. And a 1K box or two of Armscor 62gr fmj with the brass gives you an A in my book for being prepared. Much easier to store a few cans of powder than several thouand rounds of ammo. Toss that brass and projectiles in the garage or under the house.
- Q: How much money do you think I could get per lb if I wanted to trade in scrap steel material?
- Scrap steel is usually traded per ton. Average steel prices fluctuate on a daily basis. General prices for scrap steel are around $100 - $200 per ton. For daily scrap steel prices check the source below
- Q: pros and cons of stainless steel and carbon steel swords
- Carbon is what samurais added to their swords to make them super strong. The iron ore was cooked in coal for days; the coal adds the carbon. Too much carbon or too little carbon is a bad thing so it was a very important process. I'd have to go with a sword with carbon.
- Q: What are the properties of high-strength steel coils?
- High-strength steel coils possess several key properties that make them desirable in various applications. These include exceptional tensile strength, excellent formability, and increased resistance to wear, corrosion, and impact. Moreover, high-strength steel coils typically exhibit higher yield and ultimate strength than regular steel coils, making them suitable for demanding structural and manufacturing purposes.
- Q: I have two theories, which one's correct? My book says that steel is made up of 98% iron and 2% carbon.98% of iron's molar mass (55.85 g/mol) is 54.733.2% of carbon's molar mass (12.01 g/mol) is .2402.If you add them up that gives you that steel has a molar mass of 54.97 g/mol.However, steel's chemical formula is Fe(3)CThat would make it's molar mass 179.56 g/mol.( Because 3(55.85) + 12.01 = 179.56 )Which one is correct?
- Molar Mass Steel
- Q: What are the common methods of testing the strength of steel coils?
- Some common methods of testing the strength of steel coils include tensile testing, hardness testing, and bend testing. Tensile testing involves applying a pulling force to the coil until it breaks, measuring the maximum force it can withstand. Hardness testing determines the steel's resistance to indentation or scratching, providing an indication of its strength. Bend testing involves bending the coil to a specific angle and examining if it fractures or shows signs of deformation.
- Q: How do steel coils contribute to the packaging industry?
- Steel coils are indispensable in the packaging industry because they offer a strong and flexible material for packaging various products. Using steel coils in packaging guarantees the protection and preservation of goods during transportation and storage. The strength and durability of steel coils are essential contributions to the packaging industry. Steel is well-known for its high strength-to-weight ratio, making it ideal for packaging heavy and bulky items. Steel coils can endure significant pressure and impact, ensuring that goods remain intact and undamaged throughout the supply chain. This strength also allows for packages to be stacked, optimizing storage space and minimizing the risk of damage. Moreover, steel coils are highly resistant to corrosion and moisture. This property is especially crucial in the packaging industry as it helps safeguard goods from environmental factors that could potentially compromise their quality. Steel coils can be coated or treated to enhance their corrosion resistance, ensuring that packaged products remain in excellent condition. Furthermore, steel coils are versatile and can be easily customized to meet specific packaging requirements. They can be cut and shaped into various forms, such as sheets, straps, or bands, to secure and protect different types of products. Additionally, steel coils can be seamlessly integrated with other packaging materials, like cardboard or plastic, to provide added strength and stability. Another advantage of steel coils in the packaging industry is their recyclability. Steel is one of the most widely recycled materials globally, and steel coils can be easily recycled and reused. This aspect of sustainability makes steel coils an environmentally friendly choice for packaging, contributing to waste reduction and resource conservation. To summarize, steel coils play a crucial role in the packaging industry by offering strength, durability, corrosion resistance, versatility, and recyclability. Their utilization ensures the secure transportation and storage of goods, providing a dependable and sustainable packaging solution for various industries.
- Q: How are steel coils used in the appliance industry?
- Steel coils are used in the appliance industry to manufacture various components such as outer panels, frames, and internal structures of appliances like refrigerators, washing machines, and ovens. The coils are processed to create specific shapes and sizes, providing strength, durability, and stability to the appliances.
