Q: Produce a one compartment vertical file by bending the long side of an 10-in. by 18-in. sheet of plastic along two lines to form a U-shape. (i)How tall should the file be in order to maximize the volume that the file can hold? (ii) What is the maximum volume?
Bend on lines so that the file is 10 long x Y high x (18 - 2Y) thick Volume = V = 180Y - 20Y^2 dV/dY = 180 - 40Y = 0 when V is maximum. Y = 9/2 For max. volume file is = 10 x 9/2 x 9 Max V = 405 cubic ins.
Q: filled bubbles. the lenses in these sheets are advertised to focus heat from the sun into the water and raise its temperature. do you think the lenses of such sheets do in fact direct more solar energy into the water?
yes, the radiant heat is collected in the airspace and the heat then moves from the plastic to the water. think of a car that has been setting(haha) in the sun with the windows up. when you get in the heat moves from the air in the car to your body. same process. question: will the heat leave the water faster than the water absorbs the heat?
Q: My basement is absolutely horrific: 200+ pages of guitar sheet music sprawled out all around the floor and i really have to organize them some how. Any ideas? Thanks!
Well, one way would be a file cabinet according to either alphabetical by song, or even artist. If you don't have an open cabinet you could always just use folders and make a stack of song titles, for example a folder for songs starting with a b c etc.
Q: I got the thick 4mil, does it work better with a space between the window and film? My neighbor puts the film right on the window, does that help? I think a still-air space would work better. How much does it really help, 5%?
yes the air gap will help because air is an excellent insulator, however, make the gap very small, because if you make it too large then you can get lots of convection(where the air can circulate inside the gap) which will significantly lessen the insulation qualities. This same idea is used in regular fiberglass insulation, the air gaps are created by very small holes in the insulation, and these small holes also help to keep the convection down.
Q: Can plastic sheets be used for insulation?
Yes, plastic sheets can be used for insulation. They provide a barrier that helps to reduce heat loss or gain, depending on the desired insulation effect. Plastic sheets such as polyethylene or polystyrene are commonly used in building structures to improve energy efficiency and thermal comfort.
Q: Can plastic sheets be used for interior design purposes?
Yes, plastic sheets can be used for interior design purposes. They are versatile and can be utilized for various applications such as wall coverings, partitions, furniture, and decorative elements. Additionally, plastic sheets come in different colors, textures, and finishes, allowing for creativity and customization in interior design projects.
Q: Gardening tips
I use burlap works great!.......oops ran out of burlap here so old sheets pillow cases no plastic! not good getting cold here in Ohio
Q: You know how dvd cases are made of somewhat flexible plastic? Where can you find sheets of those? (if you even can)
Michael's Crafts ;)))
Q: What are plastic sheets?
Plastic sheets are thin, flat and flexible materials made from various types of plastic polymers. They are commonly used for packaging, insulation, construction, and other applications where a durable, lightweight, and moisture-resistant material is required.
Q: I am making paintings (fine art) that can be painted and lifted like large decals. I have used 6 mil shipping plastic, This works great, but is hell to format and non-permanent. I need to identify and locate a more stable substitute. (Clear plastic sheeting; large solid sheets that watersoluble paint will peel off of.)I would think the same thing tupperware is made of (polypropylene), but cannot find it in flat clear sheets. Does anyone know what the clear painters pallettes are made of (melamine?) and if it is sold in sheets to the public? I have been trying to put a finger on this for over 2 years--any help or leads out there?thanx
get a sheet of glass my friend and tape the edges in a good duct tape-also you can go to a plastics store and buy sheets of acrylic. Different thickness', different prices of course-buy something small-you can also go to crafts stores to buy pre-cut to use instead of glass in frames-check it out, I bet it will work. Worth a couple $$ to know-
