Q:help with plastic!!?
For alternatives to plastic, you need to look at the environmental and recycling sites. Plastic is used because it is robust and lightweight. We used to use rubber, cork, wood, various metals. Plastic is used in a lot of packaging rather than paper because it is lighter and easier to handle with automated machinery. Plastic is made by heating crude oil (which you will have problems getting hold of at home). When crude is heated, the high octane stuff comes off first and that is used for aircraft, less volatile stuff is used for transport, then comes diesel, the heavy stuff that's left is used as tar, nylon, and plastics, then comes tarmac for roads etc. If you try making this at home, you will be killed for wrecking the kitchen :-)
Q:how does plastic bottles affect the environment?
I've always heard that hairspray destroys are ozone layer. I'm no scientist but that's why we have Global warming(because the ozone layer is being destroyed). So if that statement is true then yes, hairspray still affects the environment. If it is, i think they should make a type that doesn't.
Q:How is plastic made and how does it stay soft? ?
Plastics that we use today all are polymers (i.e. obtained from polymerization of simplest alkene: ethylene) n(CH2=CH2) ------------------------> -(-CH2-CH2-)-n ethylene polyethylene Properties of polyethylene = tough and durable They can easily be soften on heating and can easily remould (recycled) because they are thermoplastic polymers.
Q:What are plastic containers made with and how?
Most plastic containers are made through an injection molding process. One mold for the base, another for the lid. A variety of plastics are used including polystyrene, polypropelene, celanese nylon and cycolac. Color pellets are added to produce a manufacturer's designated color. Depending on the size of the unit being processed, molding machines vary in tonnage. 300 to 500 ton presses are commonly used. That help?
Q:China is banning the use of plastic bags -?
That has more to do with their garbage and street waste. A lot of nations that are developing (and lots of China is still developing) have major waste disposal issues.
Q:Easy to recycle plastics?
the way i understand it, all plastics are easy to recycle. Only problem is determined by the cost. The cheapest are not much subjected to recycle but dispose of unlike the thick and big ones that would command high scrap value. I hope malls would charge 500% more from the cost of their bags so consumers would be forced to reuse them or bring along their own bags when shopping.
Q:Why is plastic bad for the environment?
Yup plastic takes over 700 hundred years to disintegrate. So imagine when all this build of plastic fills up the environment, it becomes a nuisance and creates a filthy environment for people/animals.
Q:Alcohol turned clear plastic foggy white, What should I do?
This happened to a cup of mine. I painted a thin even coat of clear nail polish over the foggy white area and it turned the white foggy area clear again.
Q:How come Reach toothbrushes have plastic bristles.?
Most all toothbrushes have plastic bristles whether it a conventional or electric brush. As long as the bristles are soft they are fine for your teeth and gums. Using a hard toothbrush or a lot of pressure when you brush can cause your gums to be brushed away which is called recession, or your teeth to wear away which is called abrasion. The reason plastic is used it that is it easily and uniformly manufactured. Natural bristle brushes are an option but I wouldn't recommend them. Hope that helps! JAMRDH - a dental hygienist
Q:melting plastic?
Unless you know what your doing, what types of plastic to use (and there melting points), How to mold them know how dangerous it could be to do this (melting plastic doesn't come off skin very easily) I wouldn't go any further. The money and time you spend won't give you the finished product you seek. Sorry.
