Q:Thermo softening plastics? best answer 10 points?
milk jug soda bottle plastic cup vinyl siding? garbage cans
Q:Alcohol turned clear plastic foggy white, What should I do?
The term plastic simply refers to a great number of different polymers. For instance, one type of plastic holds up well against acids, another type will melt. One type, the type in the alcohol bottle will hold up to alcohol, another type such as your phone plastic wont, Always be carefull with plastics! Im sorry to say, you wont get that fog out of your plastic, it is imbedded into it now. When in doubt use simple soapy water. ABOVE ALL DO NOT USE ACETONE AS SOMEONE SUGGESTED ABOVE! IT WILL EAT THE PLASTIC! I have worked with acetone most of my life and there are very few plastics it gets along with!
Q:Is plastic bags really better than recycled paper bags?
Hemp, cotton and canvas bags are the best. Plastic Bags: There are a lot of reasons given why people 'like' plastic bags. However, they still never decompose no matter how many times you use them. This is compounded when people tie their rubbish into plastic bags. If you insist on using plastic bags you will be charged high taxes for doing so. So re-use as many times as possible then take them supermarket to be recycled. Biodegradeable Bags/Bioplastics: Polylactic acid (PLA) a biodegradable polymer derived from lactic acid. These vegetable based bioplastics biodegrades quickly under composting conditions and does not leave toxic residue. However, bioplastic have own environmental impacts caused by manufacturing and disposal of end product. Again you will be charged for these impacts and taxed but on the plus side biodegradable bags (from potato and corn starches) are a new thriving industry Paper Bags. Great if singly composted. In land fill can take years for layers to decompose. Still an organic material. But there is cost of production, costs to environment of pulp trees (monocultures, loss of habitat, etc) costs of recycling/disposal. Again you will have to pay for these production costs and disposal costs and taxed. In UK instead of stop supplying plastic bags you get rewards for bringing your own. Money back, green points. Even with supermarket home delivery See Tesco. This has not been effective so we are back to taxes. In New Zealand Cloth bags are already promoted and sold in supermarkets. However this is not stopping plastic bag useage. France is banning plastic bags 2007 others are moving towards it. The most effective is taxing plastic bag use. If we do not take action we will be taxed as the Irish are for using plastic bags. Effective as a decrease of 90% plastic bag use in Ireland.
Q:Can chemicals seep into plastic containers?
It can't seep through plastic, no. Raid won't hurt anything that's properly concealed and covered. Even when you set off a Raid bug bomb, it just asks to carefully store your food items behind cupboard doors, your dog food was sealed. It should be fine.
Q:What's the best way to repair plastic products?
Hard plastic parts, products (such as pesticide sprayer, plastic pipe, plastic shell and other equipment) to break rupture, as is justified, looking for a piece of the same size, suitable varieties of plastic sheet, baked in hot iron or iron to melt it, drop in the breach, to fill the breach until then, with a hot iron, cold after the stick.
Q:How do scents get through a plastic bag?
have you ever seen a balloon wrinkle and wither over time? this is because the air molecules move through the woven structure of the latex balloon and are released, the weave is extremely tight, and that's why it takes a long time for the balloon to loose air. the same hapens with a plastic bag.
Q:Is it okay to use plastic spoons/forks/knifes again?
i would only use it five times the most..depending on the type of plastic it is some require you to only use once. dont put it in the dishwasher and recycle when your done!
Q:Plant-Based Plastic??????/?
Plastic made from plants. The most common is made from corn starch. However, some is made from polymers derived from plant cellulose and oils. The advantages are that it comes from a renewable resource, requires less energy to convert from the raw plant stage, breaks down in landfills in a fraction of the time. Disadvantages are that more energy is required to get to the raw plant stage, is overall more expensive to produce (given all energy inputs), is not suited to long term storage. There is also the fact that to really make it economically feasible, plants would need to be bioengineered which presents a plethora of problems given public sentiment about GMO's.
Q:thermosetting plastics kettle?
thermosetting plastics can only be formed once from a liquid state, once they have cooled the polymer chains in the plastic form cross links, this in turn prevents the plastic from melting once heated after initial forming and cooling. if you did heat it a lot it would burn, not melt. so using it in a kettle is good because it wont rust, its electrically safe and it wont go soft and floppy when hot.
Q:why are plastic containers better than plastic wrap (help please for wed!)?
Plastic wrap contains di(ethylhexyl)adepate (DEHA), considered a carcinogen, is found in plastic wrap. Also when microwaving plastic wrap, xenoestrogen was migrating into the oil. Xenoestrogens are linked to low sperm counts in men and to breast cancer in women. ********This applies to all plastics both containers and wrap We should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers or plastic wrap. This applies to foods that contain fat, as the combination of fat, high heat and plastics releases dioxins into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Saran wrap placed over foods as they are nuked, with the high heat, actually drips poisonous toxins into the food. Use paper towel instead. The Tupperware line is microwave safe. Some manufacturers now make microwave cookware I'm not sure what there secret is I did not research that. My daughter sells it also. I will ask her.
