Yes, tanning beds can close all the way, but not all of them do. Older model beds, which by the description you gave i'm assuming its an older model don't usually go all the way down because either they never did or because the have been used for an excessive amount of time and are looser then the newer models. I highly recommend using this substrate because it is easy to spot clean and is easy to clean up. This substrate also will not smell unless you clean up feces around the enclosure. Also, do not mist this substrate as it can grow mold when damp and it does smell bad when wet. I suggest cleaning out the enclosure every 1-3 months, but it's always nice to have a clean cage so doing this monthly would be just fine.

Q: I need somewhere to order big amounts of cheap guinea pig bedding. I tried using fleece,towels,newspaper etc but they just continue to smell and are a pain.
