Re-inforce it by nailing sections of board as a frame. Cover the stairs with a soft luxoriuos carpet secured to the botom of each stair. Attach beautiful wooden carved decorations or 'half round' moulding to the sides of the stairs paint them all a nice color. Sew the the fittted and top sheet together at the bottom egdes. Just a few stitches left, center and right. This keeps the sheets straight on the bed. A thick comforter hides every wrinkle a sheet makes with no need to smooth them out.

This is an interesting case where original depositional layering is tilted, rather than post-depositional deformation. Cross-bedded sediments are recognized in the field by the many layers of foresets, which are the series of layers that form on the lee side of the bedform (ripple or dune).
