One key piece of information missing is the average number of peak sun hours per day. This will vary by location. It is latitude, regional weather, and site shading must be considered. Another consideration is the loses. The 60 watt solar panel is a DC voltage. The 2300 kWh is for the AC power consumed. There are loses in the inverter to change the electricity from DC to AC. There are also loses for wire resistance, soiling of the panels, wire resistance, etc. To work out an example of the math, I'll use 5 peak sun hours and a total efficiency of 80%. The math can be worked out as a single formula but I'll break it into steps for you. (2300 kwh/month)(month/30.4 days) = 75.65 kWh/day (60 W)(5 psh)(80%) = 240 Wh/day = 0.24 kWh/day/panel # of panels needed = Energy use / Energy generated (75.65 kWh/day) / (0.24 kWh/day/panel) = 36 panels.

Q:I'm making a model of a solar photovoltaic tower for a school project. I need a way to store energy, and we thought about using capacitors (mainly because of our somewhat limited funding). The tower will have a small photovoltaic panel (around the size of a laptop keyboard with number pad) and some (around 50) quot;heliostats(just the mirrors, no moving parts). What kind of capacitors should i use? and would a capacitor bank be better? i am getting confused with all those uF, pF and can't see the difference.Thanx in advance
If you have a rechargeable AA battery (NiMH or NiCad) that might work. You're not going to get much power from that size array anyway, especially if it is not in full sunlight. A Farad (F) is ,000 times bigger than a milliFarad (mF), which is ,000 times bigger (stores ,000 times more) than a microfarad (mF). pF and nF are so tiny do not even look at them. With your size array voltage might not be a problem, but be sure to check that the voltage rating of the capacitor is less than whatever the array can make. Some people buy those solar yard lights, which seem to break often. You might be able to get some and use the contents for your project (pre-wired circuits).
Q:OK, so if you put solar panels up on a roof, they are busy turning the sun's energy into electricity. So, does that mean the roof (and therefore the house/structure) stays cooler as well? Or does it still get hot, because . . . I asked the same question once to a PV install during a seminar a few years back, and he explained the following: No, PV panels do not reflect or absorb much heat from going into the building below but there is a reason for this: PV panels that reflect / absorb heat produce less electricity. They are designed to Thermally Transparent. Even worse if installed incorrectly without a good angle and air gap to allow the heat to escape the panels will actually trap this heat and increase the interior temperature of the building below! Below is the scientific analysis that is quite verbose but has two nice graphs at the end. To summarize: Adding PV panels, at best, shaded the building enough to reduce the load of the interior A/C unit by .8 kWh/sq-m/year. The electricity generated by the panels was about 356 kWh/sq-m/year. You can see the big advantage of PV panels is to make power, not reflect heat. Proper insulation is much cheaper and will do a much better job. Don’t worry, I was shocked too, but like anything it makes sense after it is explained.

Running an oven or stove on solar is not a practicality; too much power is needed, use gas. Ditto, heating using solar electricity is not a practicality, and AC would also be asking a lot. The other things, within limits, might be do-able. You'll be needing as many solar panels as you can fit on. If I was you I'd consult a solar installer about how big your battery bank should be once you have decided how many Watts of panels you can put on.
