- I agree with Maria. It will most definitely come to pass. The biggest obstacles right now are the nervous system, and understanding how it issues commands to the body. Most current technologies use muscle triggering. For example, all of your muscles work together. If you move one part of your body, muscles in adjoining body parts tense up in specific ways to help counter momentum to give you better control. Using those facts, scientists can design body parts that read and respond to those trigger movements. It's not perfect, but it does work to an extent. To be true limb-replacement, the nervous system will need to be better understood.

- There is no OSHA standard that addresses that. If the machinery poses an unusual hazard for one person than they may be cited under the general duty clause. It is difficult to answwer because your question is rather vague and doesn't explain the situation. Maybe I can give a better answer with more details, sorry. ADDED: I tried to return your message with the additional details but your email wasn't confirmed. If the employees are working alone, do a job hazard analysis and use diligence in reducing the probability of accidents occurring, either through additional safety devices such as interlocks, or additional training. When employees work alone they are more likely to cut corners and when they are on overtime fatigue can contribute to a higher risk of accidents.

- If you are looking for something physically easy then likely operating heavy machinery for construction may suit you. If you are looking for something mentally easy then refer to the above comment aboust Walmart. Each field will require some training, the schooling for HVAC and Electrician is going to be more mentally demanding in terms of theory. I would imagine that learning how to operate heavy construction machinery would likely be heavy on safety and total hours of training. There is a large amount of safety training for HVAC and Electrical work as well but its an entire different world compared to operating construction machinery.

- Q:I always wondered if nerves sent signals to our muscles, if someone lost a leg or an arm, is it theoretically possible to attach someone's nerves to machinery and control it like a limb?
- There are already artificial limbs that work on that principle. Electrodes on the skin pick up signals from muscles in the limb stump or elsewhere on the body, and those are used to drive actuators in the limb. The technology is fairly basic at the moment - just a few movements can be controlled - but it will probably get better. It would be nice if we could attach directly to the nerve bundles in the arm or leg because there are thousands of motor nerves in there. The big problems are infection, stopping the nerve dying, and the body rejecting the electrodes.
