Q:My parents talked to this guy from Express Home Solutions that's based in Garden City, NY about help with modifying their home loan and such. They wanted me to research the company to make sure it wasn't any kind of scam set up before they did anything with them, but I can't find much. There seems to be another company with the same name out of Texas, but I don't know if they're the same people. Has anyone dealt with this company or heard anything about them? Any help would be great! Thanks.

I don't know anything about this company but when I Googled the name, the first site that comes up is Rip off report so I'd be leary. There are many scam companies out there right now who will take the money up front not do much for it. Your parents don't need to hire anyone to help modify their mortgage. It can be time-consuming because so many people are looking for modifications that the lenders are overwhelmed. I've been to the one in St. Louis. I enjoyed it. There were many interesting, fun things to see. Lots of useful information booths, too. I went a couple of years ago to the one in downtown St. Louis. If you enjoy home decor and, especially, gardening and landscaping, I think you'd enjoy the show.

Q:I plan on starting a good sized garden where I will grow as many vegetables as I can.This will be to save money on groceries, eat healthier (since they'll all be just right there), and with whatever excess I'll take to the farmers market for other people to enjoy, while at the same time trying to pay for my garden investment!So I'm hoping in the following years the pay off will be saved money on groceries, learned a lot, got exercise, and maybe make a little supplemental funds on the side to pay for bills and such, but at first to pay for the garden itself....

Hi Oakfur I have Italian truck patch farmers who live down the street from me who have been doing that very thing for years and make a good living doing it. Get ready for some hard work though, and consider what you could make on any other job available to you. With a small garden, I would think you'd spend a lot of time with very little produce to sell so on an hourly basis it may not be worth it. Try it and see, you have nothing but a little time to lose and you'll sure cut your grocery bill. Hope this helps

Most of it is returned to the vendor after the main selling season ends so the retailer never has to clearance them. The vendor simply takes them and gives the store credit back. The vendors then usually destroy the seeds or find some other use for them as many seeds are only good for so long.

Well sure... our ancient ancestors had to do this. Hard to know what sort of land you'd need. You'd have to grow some root crops like potatoes, beets - stuff that keeps for a LONG time. And you'd have to dig a root cellar. So there would be a lot of careful calculation in surviving a winter on your garden and chickens alone. We're not used to doing that anymore because of stores and trucked-in food.
