Q: I have been doing lots of homemade bread making, home brewing, and home gardening recently and realized that I could try growing rye. Does anyone have experience with this? Does it seem worth it for ~400-500 sq ft? Will people think I'm just neglecting my lawn? Vegetable gardens are common, but I don't know about grain gardens. I'm located in the suburbs of Minneapolis.
I doubt if it's worth the trouble. Yes, your neighbours are going to think you just didn't bother mowing the lawn. I just looked up some stuff on growing rye. One website says that a good yield in a well-managed commercial crop is 50 to 60 bushels. If you have 500 square feet, you have about 1/87th of an acre. You will probably, therefore, get a little more than half a bushel of rye out of your plot, maybe 30 lbs, if you do everything right. And unless you buy a milling machine to turn it into flour--some of those are rather expensive, and even the cheap ones are a couple of hundred bucks--all you'll get is the whole grain that has fairly limited uses. By all means, try it if you like, but to me it doesn't seem worth the effort except to satisfy curiosity.
Q: I am starting a garden this fall with berry bushes and leafy greens. I have been doing a bunch of reasearch because I have never had a garden before and some of my plants are prone to bugs and fungus. I want my garden to be as organic as possible so I don't want chemical spray. Anyone know any good homemade concoctions I can make to help? Thanks =D
Fungi are encouraged by too much water and inadequate air circulation. Allow plenty of breathing room between plants and row. Put mulch down around the plants. We use newspapers (5-6 sheets thick) and composted grass clippings. Will act as a weed barrier AND keep the moisture in the soil and will offer some protection for the plants/veggies. Feed the birds, encourage them to live in your yard with food, water and places to live. Nearly all baby birds are fed on bugs and many species eat bugs right along with the seeds. And some only eat bugs. The more birds, the better! They will do the dirty work for you! And the link below will help you deal with issues as they come up.
Q: so i can get an idea for mines. i need to see ones with the front yard and side yard.please give me website of beautyfull yards

Q: We are having a Secret Santa in our office and the name that I picked is for a woman who I don't know much about. All I know is that she has a nice garden near her home. Last year, I picked her name and I bought her a plant. She loved it! I don't want to get her the same gift this year. It's too difficult to transport from home during the morning rush hour. Any suggestions? The maximum is $20. Thanks!
I am an avid gardener and can give you some ideas. You could give her packets of seeds or perhaps a bag of bulbs or maybe a gift certificate to Brecks or Spring Hill bulb company. She may like a new gardening tool or a pair of gardening gloves. Maybe a nice flower pot or a little set of pots that can fit on a window sill. A book on gardening (one for her area) is a great idea as well. A gift certificate to a local nursery is a fine gift that will be well received, too.
Q: I will be trying to grow them as a special project for my 8 year old daughter to have fun in the garden and learn to grow her own food.
After the danger of frost has past, prepare some loose well-drained soil, plant peanuts 1 to 1 1/2 deep, 6 to 8 inches apart in rows 24 to 36 apart. Water as needed, Weed as needed, watch peanuts grow. Harvest when leaves start turning yellow. More info in links below:
Q: How do you decorate the garden?
General water is easy to bring a mellow refreshing feeling and dynamic Aura
Q: I heard something about being able to order Home and Garden Party products online. Has anyone else heard anything about that? I have ordered Home and Garden Party products before. They have some really nice candles and stoneware. Would like to hear from a designer.
I okorder . Let me know if you have any other questions about Home and Garden Pary. Have a Lovely day!
Q: Outdoor decoration design refers to the landscape decoration design, if not, what does that mean?
The landscape is art, including landscaping etc.

Q: I had a recipe from a beter homes and gardens cookbook for chicken enchiladas. I do not know what edition it was, but my cookbook is at least 10 years old. The picture of the enchiladas is garnished with tomatoes and black olives and green onions. My cookbook is packed for a move and I need that recipe. Thank you in advance!
Favorite Beef Loaf 1-1/2 pounds ground beef 1 cup medium cracker crumbs 2 beaten eggs 1 8-ounce can seasoned tomato sauce 1/2 cup finely-chopped onions 2 tablespoons chopped green pepper 1-1/2 teaspoons salt 1 medium bay leaf, crushed Dash thyme Dash marjoram Combine all ingredients; mix well. Shape mixture in a loaf in shallow baking dish. Press two green pepper rings and an onion ring atop meat loaf, if desired. Bake at 350 degrees about 1 hour. Makes 6 to 8 servings. I ordered this cookbook on line because the recipes are so good.
