- You mean paper lanterns? There are online places that sell them, and as long as you use water colour paint it should be fine (don't use anything oil based).

- As long the scientists has to assume that there is an absolute vacuum through which light can propagate then they have no choice but to define light as having also the properties of a particle (called photon). I think it is hard here to show that such an absolute vacuum cannot exist unless we consider that the smallest matters are of the atomic universe. To please your curiosity, in brief, why not the atomic particles are in turn made by a sub-atomic universe too?! People in the near past couldn't imagine for example that our big planet would become just a small ball if all electrons stop their motions. The same, the world will need more time to get the idea that also the atomic particles like an electron has much the same structure as our dear planet (made by a much smaller sub-atomic universe). But I am afraid that the whole story is much more complicated than this very simplified explanation. But meanwhile and till this happens in the unseen future, let us please our teachers minds by telling them that light could propagate as an energy wave or photons as well. :)

- No. If you are moving at the speed of light you become light, so this scenario is not possible. But if it somehow was possible, the speed of light would not increase 2 fold. Due to the nature of light, no matter what speed your are traveling, the speed of light will remain constant. Like if you are driving your car 60 km/hr with the headlights on, the lights in your headlights aren't moving the speed of light (3.0x10^8 m/sec) plus the 60 km/hr your driving, they are just moving the speed of light.

- Light is the energy that you see that comes from moving photons. Photons are ultra teeny tiny eensy weensy subatomic particles with no intrinsic mass. (i do not know what intrinsic means). Whenever they move, they generate energy, which is given off in the form of light which we see.
- Q: Which kind of street light bulb rated at the same wattage gives off more light? Mercury or sodium? How come?
- The most efficient light, in terms of lumens per watt, is low-pressure sodium. Because these give light almost exclusively from the sodium D-lines (589 nm), they do not do well at showing colors and are used mostly in areas where light pollution of nearby astronomical observatories is to be minimzed (as near the Carlsbad observatory on the southern California coast). Next best are high-pressure sodium lamps, which give a yellowish light that has enough spectral components other than sodium-D to gove much better color renditiion. Next best is mercury vapor, but these give only about half as much light as high-pressure sodium, so they are being phased out of streetlight service. Trailing far behind are incandescent lamps, which used to be common but are now rare.

- As stated, the larger the light to the subject the softer the light.. Think about a cloudy day V a sunny day. The sun is the same each day and the clouds make up the diffuser. So, if you think about how to make a larger light it becomes a craft project. With digi cameras setting the iso to a larger number will help as the light will be less from the light source due to the need to light the larger diffusion. This is where the powerful studio flashes come into play.
