- Q: What are the components of the curtain wall

- Q: okay well im in an apartment and dont know how long ill live there and want to decorate the living roomWhat are you thoughts on a wall with curtains instead of paint, theres no windows on this wall the curtains would cover all the wall but leave about 10 -15 inches of the top of the plain cream wall showing, with curtain roods and the curtains covering the rest.
- On the plus side you want a feature wall. On the minus side your solution is pretty expensive, particularly if you aren't staying that long. OK you can take it with you but you've got the hassle of taking it all down and making good where the curtain rod fixings were. It's cheaper and easier to do a feature wall just using emulsion paint in a single colour such as red/burgundy or maybe a chocolate. You can turn it back to cream for the price of another tin of paint and a brush and keep your landlord happy so you get your deposit back.

- Well, it will all depend on how you do it... I have seen some good wall curtains and some pretty bad ones! But if you find a thick, heavy fabric you like, and buy a staple gun, I think you could cover that wall quite easily without having to 'drape' the fabric and with minimum damage to the wood... just stretch it like a canvas. Draped fabric on an entire wall can get really busy; plus, it will collect dust like you have never seen before.

- If it were me, I would buy curtain rods - same as when hanging them at a window. I would put the rods at both the top and the bottom so that the curtain hangs taut against the wall. Since your wall is probably sheetrock, You would have to put screws into anchors in order to secure the curtain rod brackets. Drill a hole first (smaller than the anchor); then hammer the plastic anchor into the hole; then screw the bracket into the anchor. I wish you all the best. Charles

- How about a patterned curtain with all 3 or even 2 of those colors? You could check at local stores for this, or even try a fabric store and have them made (or make them yourself if you are handy). But here's something to think about..What if you take the existing brown curtains pull them back and either have a cream colored sheer curtain or even cream colored vinyl mini-blinds? That way you are using up what you already have. The brown makes the room seem dark,but it will act as a great accent when pulled back. You could get something red for your tiebacks...ribbon, beads, whatever will look fun and different. Personally it sounds darling, have fun with it!!

- Q: I want to put curtains behind my headboard, my comforter is chocolate brown, and my walls are light yellow. I want to use blues with the brown, but im not sure what color the curtains should be. I thought if i go with brown it would be too much brown. What do you think?
- Since you want to incorporate blue, you could do a navy blue. It would look good with the light yellow walls and brown comforter.
- Q: I am in the lower level room of a duplex, and there is a cathedral ceiling above me, broken in half by the banister/split level. Its about 10 or 11 feet across, and 10 feet high. I just want a simple track to put a curtain up that is heavy velvet (like a stage curtain). So, there is no window involved.
- You will probably have a hard time finding a curtain off the shelf that is that long, so I would recommend buying a bolt of fabric. Velvet is really expensive ($20 - $50 a yard), so consider going with a faux suede. As far as how to hang them, Ikea makes a wire system that works really well, and it's similar to a system that designers use. You can attach it to the ceiling or to a wall. It works on tension, so after you install it, you use a hex wrench or screw driver to tighten up the wire so it will hold the weight of the fabric without sagging. It comes with over 16' of wire, but you can cut it to fit the length of the space you need it for. The online catalog says it holds up to 11 pounds, so make sure your fabric doesn't weigh any more than that. If it does, consider getting 2 and installing them so they overlap slightly. They also sell those clips attached to a ring. If you buy these too, you can clip the fabric rather than hanging it over the wire, or having to sew a pocket to run the wire through. It will leave more of a gap at the top, but it will also allow the flexibility of being able to draw the curtains back or to one side if you want to open it up to the space below. It says it's not available on line, so you'll have to go to Ikea to get it. If there isn't an Ikea close to you, do a search for the closest store, then call and ask if they will ship it to you from the store. I've never tried this, but it's worth a shot.
