This is not just a simple plug in run a few wires job you need to make sure you run the plumbing right and wont leak and make sure the drain is right. The wiring needs to be correct and make sure that its not a to small of a breaker or if there is a lot of high voltage items already on it. I have done many of them takes me about 2 hrs to put one in and I know what im doing

Since petrochemicals are class B fires, an extinguisher capable of extinguishing this type works best, specifically a CO2 or dry chemical extinguisher (look for either a BC or ABC type).

Other than gluing , smaller sections of pipe can be fused (melted)together. Fusing is a common technique in industrial and civil applications and for joining types of plastic pipe for which there isn't a solvent based glue available. HDPE (High density Poly Ethelyene) is an example of a thermo plastic, one which is joined by heat and not a solvent based glue. PCV (Poly Vynil Chloride) pipe like what you would find at home depot uses a solvent based glue. The solvent based glue chemically softens and joins the pipe sections together without the use of heat. The attached link shows a mile long section being fused together as its being pulled into an old pipe. Fused joints do not require addtional pipe fittings like couplings. Couplings used in glued PVC joints are larger diameter than the pipe and would not be able to be pulled through an old pipe section with a significant loss of inside pipe diameter. Fused joints are nearly the same outside diameter of the pipe and do not require a coupling fitting. As a result the fused pipe can be pulled into an old section of pipe and use nearly the entire inside dimension of the old pipe. The process of placing a new pipe inside and old pipe is called slip lining. It is a means to rejuvinate and old leaky pipe without he need to dig up all of the the old pipe.

Paul make sure fitting is dry inside and your using the right flux.A rose bud will work but could burn the fittings if your not careful.Mapp should be plenty of heat for that size.I use propane on 1 all the time.They willnot solder if there wet inside.

The size of a pipe is what is called a nominal inside diameter. A schedule 40 1 pipe will measure 1 inside diameter. A schedule 80 1 pipe will measure the same OD as the schedule 40 but will be smaller inside.

It may well be brass. More often it is chrome covered brass. The pipes are large, but not as strong as they look, so be carefull. They are probably 1 1/4 diameter, since it is a bathroom. At some point they may go into either some galvanized iron pipes or some black iron pipes. The galvanized ones rust out sometimes. Don't be surprised it you see that. Don't bang things around too much either, some pipes may be weak. There are several fittings in that piping system, each with a nut on them. See if you can isolate which one is actually leaking, if any. If you find one, you can snug it up with a pipe wrench to see if that stops the leak. Don't put a lot of pressure on it, but go a little beyond snug. That might help, but probably not. It is free, easy, and fast to try it though. There is a rubber gasket inside the fitting. You will see a rather large nut that goes around the pipe that is part of the fitting. Remove that nut and probably one or two other similar nuts in the same area. That will give you access to the rubber washer. Take the washer or the pipe to a store and get a new washer. Put the washer on, put everything back together, tighten the nuts. To not put excessive pressure on the nuts, they will warp. Also the pipes are fairly strong, but won't hold up to unlimited pressure. Snug it up and then go just a bit farther. You should have to put some pressure on the wrench, but certainly don't do pull-ups (the exercise) on them. P.S. your description is fine. You specified that it was the pipe that goes from the tub drain to the main drain. That was important information. Not sure why the first two replys didn't see that fact.
