- Q: Does anyone have a science fair project that has to do with physics or chemistry in the middle school level?
- Physical Science Ideas Use a spectroscope to analyze the light spectra produced by burning different elementsDo you expect compounds that contain some of the same elements to have similar spectra? Build your own light bulb, and then experiment with what materials make the longest-lasting or brightest filamentE xperiment with the most effective materials and design for propellers or model airplanes What kind of substance (metal, ceramic) conducts heat the best? Do a thermal conductivity study to discover which substance works best for a pot handle and which works best for a teapot Find out how increased mass affects velocity and acceleration by doing a project with dynamic cartsYou can also experiment with the resulting velocities after a collision between a moving object and unmoving one, or between two objects moving in opposite directions Experiment with the best way to build a solar oven to cook your own food Chemistry Ideas Try distilling drinkable water from salt water using the sunWhat materials can you use to speed up the rate of evaporation? Make your own ink using different substances and compare how each withstands the effects of heat, light, or moistureFor example, does one type fade faster than another when they are heated or when exposed to strong light? Use pennies to copper-plate an iron nailSee if pennies minted before 1982 (when they were 95% copper) make a thicker coating than newer pennies do (they only have 2.5% copper) How does the number of pennies you use affect the time it takes to plate the nail? Use a semi-permeable membrane to experiment with osmosisWhat kinds of substances pass through the membrane, and what substances don’t? What is a common property that prevents substances from passing through the membrane? Which retains heat longer, salt water or fresh water? Design an experiment to find out Last updated: 01/08/07
- Q: Does anyone know if the plan still goes like the higher the fiber content the lower the points? I recently joined WW online, but I am confused with the siteI used to use there slider scale, guess they don't have those anymore.

- Q: i have a 1200 sq ft home with a heat pumpMy electric bill runs around $150 a monthi live in the southeast so it rarely gets below 20 degrees FarenheitIm comfortable with keeping the thermostat on 60 and covering up with blankets at night, but i need to keep my 6 month old daughter's room warmI was thinking about just putting a small heater in her room to save money but i'm not sure how much energy those heaters use on averageJust wanting to know if this is a good idea and maybe get some other money/energy saving tipsThanks!
- Ceramic Tower Heater- $55 at WalmartOr an infrared for about $30-AmazoncomA little heater with an automatic shut off at set temperatures work wellIf you leave it on all the time, your electric bill will be high.60 is pretty low for a house too cold for a 6moold, so get the auto-shut-off heater for the roomIt'll pay for itself with less doctor visits Use more blankets with cotton in them over existing blankets- they hold in more heatCheck you windows doors to make sure all the seals are tight-caulk is cheap Dress in layers- even insideTake bath instead of shower- you don't have to fill it up all the way, but the steam will help heat the houseSame thing with the ovenIf you make a casserole or a cake, open the door slightly to the oven let the heat come out into the houseCheck trees around your homeAre any blocking east or southwest sun from coming in the windows? At night, use thermal lined drapes to keep heat inTrees are great for cooling in summer but you want the sun to do it's job in the winter.

- You should insulate to achieve an R-49 rating.
- Q: What is the standard of ceramic fiber?
- Basalt fiber cloth, with high strength, permanent flame retardancy, more than 1000℃ short-term temperature resistance, and used in the 760℃ environment for long time, is the ideal material to replace asbestos and glass fiber cloth. Products of ceramic fiber, made by using ceramic fiber as material, refers to industrial products with light weight, high temperature resistance, good thermal stability, low thermal conductivity, low specific heat and mechanical shock resistance and other advantages. It is exclusively applied in all kinds of high temperature, high pressure and environments where it is easy to wear.
