- . . . . thrash came after Heavy Metal Its still around whats playing today is whats called Nu Metal, this is your Disturbed, Slipknot, ect, ect bands like Anthrax, Slayer, Metallica, ect ect are still playing and recording but they're reaching the end of their careers, no one can keep that going forever. So its not dying its just that all the big names are slowing down.

- Well that's different, now there's metal sub-genres. In the 70's-80's there weren't. Seeing as what used to be metal in that time is now considered classic rock, or hard rock at best. The difference is this, listen to Ozzy Osbourne (Love Randy, have his signature guitar), Motley Crue, Guns N Roses, then listen to Lamb Of God, Pantera (Groove metal), or Here Comes The Kraken (Deathcore). Or Opeth for some nice progressive metal.

- Metal has influenced modern rock. In a bad way. Some jerks (Metallica) thought they would become more popular and get more money if they toned down their music to create a hard hitting but accessible form of music. The only thing that makes metal so sophisticated is its tempo, heaviness and guitarwork. If you tone down metal, you lose all that makes metal good. Metallica, and other modern rock bands that caught on kept making metal more softer until they were left with a disgracefully shitty and toned down form of rock called modern rock. This rock didnt have all the interesting scales and rhythms of the blues and therefore nothing special. It has no more meaning than the pop music that surrounded it.
