- Q: I am working on a device to be powered at a remote village in Africa where power is scarce and the power grid shuts on and off all the time everyday. Or I can use my 20W/16.5V/1.2A penal with a battery, which should be more than enough to power my device day and night. I have done a lot of googling but I still can't find a proper way to charge a battery with a 20W panel.Any input regarding the best way to supply power to the device will be greatly appreciated!

- If you have the plug for your device(and I assume you have one) connect it to your car battery, but a small coil in series and an Eelco 120pf should suffice parralel and your all good to go. The eelco+coil will take the punishment from any peeks and EMC problems from the car. Don't forget to start the car every once in a while if it takes longer than the hour! wouldn't want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere.

In order to keep up with inflation or beat it, you need to invest your money. I recommend people invest in mutual funds. Mutual funds are long term investments and should be part of your investment portfolio. There's thousands of mutual funds to choose from for all types of investors from investors who are willing to take a little risk to investors willing to take lots of risk. Anyway, here is a free education that banks don't want you to know. Its called the Rule of 72. Its a formula that tells you how many years your money will double given the interest rate. It is calculated by taking 72 and divide it by the interest rate and it will tell you how many years your money will double. With the 3% interest, it will take 24 (72 divided by 3) years for your money to double. With 6% interest, it will take 12 years for your money to double. With 12% interest, it will take 6 years for your money to double. I went to college and there was a very small section in one of my textbooks that went over this. My college professor told me not to worry about it since it was not going to be on the test. So I ignored it and forgot about it until I got a job in a financial company. - 1. kva is NOT equal to kw. 2. transformers are rated in amps, per phase 3. If it is an existing building use a clamp ammeter to measure the load. Repeat this during the day. The highest load is usually around 11am in summer hot days. 4. if it is not an existing building, check the CURRENT draw of all appliances, fluorescent lights and so, and add up. Buildings have lousy power factors from fluorescent lighting and electronic equipment (computers and such) which would make kva twice as high as kw. . .
