FAQ

Is it best to go for a more powerful vacuum cleaner?

The power of a vacuum cleaner’s motor is measured in Watts. The higher the Wattage the better it will clean, as long as the machine is well designed with good air flow and suction power too. However, the higher the wattage, the noisier the machine will be. With upright vacuum cleaners. you don’t need to have so much wattage or suction power as you do with a cylinder cleaner as the dirt has less distance to travel before it reaches the bag or dust container. The type of brushes are more of an important consideration with uprights than the power. You don’t always want to have a vacuum cleaner operating at full power for example, when cleaning upholstery or curtains, so it’s useful to be able to adjust the power level yourself.

Which attachments should I look out for?

Most vacuum cleaners come with three attachments, a crevice tool, upholstery and dusting brushes and a small head which is best for vacuuming stairs. You can also get additional turbo brushes which have their own motor for extra suction which are useful for cleaning deep-pile carpets or a power cleaning head which has electrically powered rotating brushes. A hard-floor or parquet brush is useful for wooden or tiled floors. Some cleaners have extendable tubes which are useful for hard to reach areas like cobwebs in the corners of ceilings.

I have a large house? What should I look out for?

Look for a cleaner with a large cleaning head – this will help cut down the amount of time it takes to vacuum a room. Also get as long a lead as you can get to cut down on the number of times you have to unplug the lead and plug it in again. You may also want to consider getting a model with a large capacity dust collector or bag so that you don’t have to empty it as frequently. If you have a lot of stairs, you may want to get a cylinder model with a long stretchy stair-cleaning hose.

Q:are Henry Hound vacuum cleaners any good for getting dog hairs out of carpets?
I do not know about the Henry Hound but the DYSON Animal is great. I think it could suck the paint off the wall if I left it there long enough.
Q:I want all the details
I once, many yrs ago, went through the 'training' course for Kirby and on the first day on the job, a few of us drove to an apt. complex and headed for doors with 6 'free' steak knifes and our jumbo box of crap to show our potential 'victims' The poor elderly gentleman had hard wood floors throughout his place and we found something in common to talk about other than the Kirby. In short, my 'supervisor' came in and strarted to demand the man that he needed one no questions asked! Well, instead of me hitting my 'boss' I quit on the spot and the p**** made me walk home about 10 miles away! Don't work for these scondrels if you want to remain yourself and not some pushhy dirtbag!
Q:I am in China and don't have any carpet in my apartment (thank goodness!). I was thinking of getting a vacumn cleaner as it is aways so dusty but will this do more harm than good to my health in my apartment. Is it better just to sweep regularly and mop up the dust? Thanks !

Q:I need one for home, but i dont want to spend $50. Any ideas??
I okorder
Q:Do Jehovah's Witnesses sell solar or vacuum cleaners also as they go knocking door to door?
I wish they'd at least carry a box of donuts with him to hand out I might actually open the door
Q:My year old Bissell vacuum is starting to not work so well. It has way less suction than it used to and it makes weird sounds. Our upstairs is all hardwood linoleum so all I'm using it for my crazy 6' X 9' rug in the living room. Maybe all that cat hair is extra hard on vacuums? I don't know why I can't find one that will last. The one I had before this was a Eureka and it still had suction, but the rotating brush in the front broke out after 3 years of use. And it was used in an all carpeted house. What I love about my vacuum most is the compartment in the front that lets me easily dump out the dust instead of having to change a bag. But how to I search through the various upright vacuum cleaners to find one that isn't going to die after a year? Some of them say they are designed for many years, but how do I know what is real in those advertisements? Can any of you tell me what you use and how long it has worked for you? Thanks.
Have you checked the belt, looked for a clog somewhere? You do need to do maintenance on them now and then! You can take it to a vacuum repair shop too. If you really want a good vacuum, go to a vacuum repair shop or a vacuum cleaner dealer store. None of them at the discount stores are worth a darn! Find something with a metal fan blade, instead of plastic, and a commercial model would even be better. It will cost you more initially, but in the long run it will not need to be replaced for years!!! I cleaned houses for 14 yrs. 5 days a week 3-4 houses a day, using the same vacuum cleaner!!!
Q:I am aware vacuums absorb dust from the carpet but does their force also cause dust to be blown into the air? Please respond and thanks!
Some dust does go back out the vacuum's exhaust. the better filter that you have on the vacuum the less dust it will spew out. However you are vacuuming up far more dust than what is being put back into the air. If you have severe allergies or respiratory problem you can always wear a mask while vacuuming.
Q:How good are the Kirby Vacuum cleaners?
They have an excellent reputation, but nowadays, with the advancement of technology, you can walk into your local Wal-Mart and find a vacuum cleaner that's less expensive and just as efficient. Kirby people will tell you that their V/cleaners last for years, but so do the cheaper brands.
Q:YAHOO ANSWERS TOOK MY PREVIOUS QUESTION DOWN SO NOW I HAVE TO ASK AGAIN - does it need it to vacuum
What vacuum cleaner do you own? For the majority of vacuums the answer to your question will be yes, you will need the hose inserted into the holder for the base part of the vacuum to suck/clean properly. Some vacuums will keep the beater bar spinning, but that doesn't mean it is creating suction/air flow. If you give your vacuum model then I could be a little more specific... Good luck!
Q:I HATE dysons and I don't mind buying bags my options r Oreck Pilot, Eureka airspeed Bagged, Hoover Windtunnel Bagged and Shark Navigato lift away pro I have 3 dogs English Bulldog which shed all year round, Boston Terrier, Chihuahua and don't recommend any other vacuum cleaners I just need to know which one is the best
Personally, I wouldn't go with any of your choices...I swear by Bissell. My recommendation to you is to google for customer reviews on each of your choices and see which one works the best from the ones that have them....(that's what I do). And I have 2 cats who shed...one is a huge white/grey long-haired Maine Coon.
