Q:Caring for oriental and area rugs?
Vacuum your area rugs regularly, being sure to go back and forth in the same direction over the entire rug (avoiding the fringes). If you are vacuuming with a beater brush, we suggest you set the brush so it just touches the top of the pile and moves easily across the rug. When vacuuming with a carpet tool, ease the suction of the vacuum by adjusting it accordingly. Be sure to periodically vacuum the back of the rug. Rotate your area rugs as often as possible (1-2 years), when you notice the high traffic areas of your rug starting to look dirty, or the nap has lost its original direction or shape. Rotating your rugs will allow them to wear more evenly, maintaining their original appearance and value. Also, rotate your rugs according to the amount of direct sunlight. Over time direct sunlight can fade the dyes of your rugs.
Q:whata is the best carpet?
Guitar has some very good points on the stain resistance in a carpet but I have to choose a pure nylon carpet for durability. These fibers are treated now with a heat set in texture retention that when properly cleaned the fibers will come back to life and stand back up. These fibers you are walking on the tops of , and this is what you want. Berber , since your walking on the yarn side, has a tendency to matt and crush. Most berbers are also made of an Olefin/ nylon mix. While Olefin is a good stain block by nature, it is a softer yarn. So it boils down to a good stain blocker set into the fiber as its made ( not topically applied ) nylon and a good anti matt/ anti crush warranty. Nothing less than 10 years. Not all stuff will come out of a carpet . The trick is to properly treat spills right away and in a way the manufacturer suggests. Plus the daily vacuuming and at a minimum of once a year a professional , certified carpet cleaner. Mohawk and shaw make some good products. I lean toward Mohawk because I sold it for almost 20 years. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q:Will laying alot of rugs down soundproof the floor?
This Site Might Help You. RE: Will laying alot of rugs down soundproof the floor? If I lay down a lot of rugs in my apartment (I AM ON THE 3rd FLOOR SO I HAVE SOMEONE UNDER ME). No complaints as of yet but I want to turn it up a bit will laying out alot of rugs help or not? If you have a better idea please help! THANKS!
Q:Solutions to Ugly Carpet in an Apartment OTHER than Area Rugs?
Area rugs are your ONLY choice. I am a landlord and in the few carpeted units I have (most of mine have ceramic tile floors), I also will not let tenants mess with the carpets...if they do, I'll take it out of their deposit when they move out. Your furniture is not the cause of your carpets scrunching up, YOU are. When you walk or move around, the carpet beneath is moved and because the top carpet is not anchored to it, it shifts around. Try a small area rug in a high traffic area...get some velcro strips, the hook side, and using some fabric glue, glue the strips to the back of the area rug...make sure you put a big patch in the middle. Now put the rug down so that the velcro hooks grab the carpet beneath. Now, let it stay there for a few days and see if there is any scrunching...if there is, add some more velcro to the underside of the rug OPPOSITE the scrunch, because the carpet is moving from that direction. If you can make this work on a small rug, you should be able to make it work on larger ones. I have used it in rentals to fix a mat to the carpet just inside the door to minimize soil...worked fine.
Q:How do I dry my carpet?
Eep! First, get a shop vac to pull up as much water as you can. Then turn fans onto it: At a place that I used to work, that's what the guys would do after they shampooed the carpet. Good luck!
Q:How to get nail polish out of carpet!!?
Use BOTH nail polish remover and carpet cleaner. But first use nail polish remover.
Q:Can professional carpet cleaners get nail polish out carpet?
Call them and ask but it may depend upon whether your carpet is soluble in the same solvent as the nail polish. ------------ I once dissolved the lining of my jacket.
Q:Is there a way to bleach/dye carpet?
This is a maybe, maybe not answer. Any carpet with stain protection is very very hard to change the color of. If you have a low price builder grade carpet it will be easier to dye. The better quality carpet will be harder to change the color of. The stain protector will prevent the dye from getting into the fiber. After all, a stain is just a carpet dyed the wrong color. To dye a stain protected carpet the carpet must be over 150 degrees hot, hard to do in a home. You will need to call several carpet dyers to get a real answer. Its expensive almost as much as getting a new carpet. Be sure to check the warranties they have. Dyed carpet colors can track off to adjoining floors and home dyed carpets tend to fade fast.
Q:How do you uncurl an edge of an oriental rug?
Iron it is the best way but make sure you turn the rug over and iron it on the bottom side. Ironing on the top side does not solve the problem.
Q:Carpet scent?
Carpet deoderiser. You can buy it in the cleaning aisle at your grocery store.
