Q:Which wheels are better? Steel? or Aluminum? and Why?
Steel rims are stronger and will endure more abuse and curb scrapes. Aluminum rims are lighter and give the car a better ride due to less unsprung weight, but they require more maintenance and are easier damaged. I guess the final decision is up to you.
Q:Why cold rolled stainless steel sheet is lower than cold rolled stainless steel coil?
Kaiping is the flat coil set into common size. A negative tolerance is the actual thickness of the plate, not the thickness of the mark.
Q:examples of some common alloy steels, what are their compositions and properties?
Steel is an alloy consisting mostly of iron, with a carbon content between 0.2% and 2.1% by weight, depending on the grade. Carbon is the most common alloying material for iron, but various other alloying elements are used, such as manganese, chromium, vanadium, and tungsten.[1] Carbon and other elements act as a hardening agent, preventing dislocations in the iron atom crystal lattice from sliding past one another. Varying the amount of alloying elements and form of their presence in the steel (solute elements, precipitated phase) controls qualities such as the hardness, ductility, and tensile strength of the resulting steel. Steel with increased carbon content can be made harder and stronger than iron, but is also less ductile. H.
Q:hard ionized vs stainless steel cookware?
Hard anodized generally refers to aluminum that has had a specific surface treatment. The benefit of aluminum is that it's a better conductor of heat than stainless, so it will heat up faster, depending on thickness. It's also lighter than steel, if that matters to you. As far as stainless steel, it all depends on the quality of the steel and of the construction. Some pots and pans are made from cheap grades of stainless which can suffer from corrosion problems. Though this shouldn't affect the taste of the food, only the appearance of the pan. Companies making bargain products may also skimp on materials by making the metal thinner; this causes hot-spots when cooking, In the case of skillets, thinner materials are more likely to warp over time. Stainless steel is generally stronger and tougher than aluminum- less likely to dent. Thought again, strength also depends on thickness. A good quality stainless pan is hard to beat in terms of durability, these things can last several lifetimes. On the other hand so will a good quality aluminum one.
Q:What are some characteristics of steel?
Characteristics Of Steel Hardening. - The characteristic difference between steel and pure wrought iron is as follows: - When steel is raised to a red heat and then suddenly cooled, it becomes hard and brittle. This process, which is known as hardening, has no effect upon pure wrought iron. Tempering is a characteristic of steel which distinguishes it from cast iron. If steel has been hardened by being heated and suddenly cooled, as above described, it may be softened again by applying a lower degree of heat and again cooling. This is known as tempering. Cast iron, on the contrary, though it is hardened by the first process, cannot be softened by the second. When a bar of steel is struck it gives out a sharp metallic ring, quite different from the sound produced by striking wrought iron. Other characteristics of steel are its great elasticity and its retention of magnetism.
Q:what type of steel is used to make rail tracks?
I don't know what the technical name is, but steel used in rail is higher in carbon content. There is a trade-off as the higher carbon content tends to make them more brittle, and those rails with the highest carbon content are used exclusively for tight curvature in heavy grade. It's amazing to watch the welders with this stuff. Torches take too long, so diamond saws are utilized for cutting. The stuff is more problematic in severe cold, too. Railroading in the mountains as I've always done, nighttime and its severe chill causes pull - aparts, due to the contraction of CWR (Continuous Welded Rail) as a result of the cold, at least two or three times a week. In an extended deep freeze, the problems are nightly. What is interesting to note is that the pull aparts tend to happen with equal frequency regardless of whether a part of tangent track or curve. Still, I'd rather have it under me. I know it caused some major problems on the SP in the '80s, but it was cheaper, imported steel that was the significant part of the problem, not so much the high carbon content. Once again, you can't beat US steel.
Q:Casting Stainless Steel?
You have 2 options. Sand casting or investment casting. Stainless steel can be cast with either of these methods. In either case a model or pattern will have to be created. For sand casting the pattern is all that is needed to go to casting. For investment casting the pattern is used to make a wax casting, which is then coated with the investment. The wax is burned out and the metal is then poured into the cavity. If you are making just 1 or 2 pieces you can have waxes machined. This saves the intermediate step Depending on the size machining may still be your best option. Especially if you want just 1 part.
Q:what metals are more dense than steel?
This Site Might Help You. RE: what metals are more dense than steel? which metals have a higher density than steel? and how does the density compare to steel( example: tungsten carbide is 2x [i think] more dense than steel.)
Q:What grade of steel is best suited for use on ships. Specifically trawlers?
How big is your trawler going to be and what use, The ones you see off the Alaska Coast or a Gulf Coast Shrimper? My preference in today's economy would not make sense and that is Aluminum.....not steel at all, maybe even Fiberglass, but $$$$ talk so Steel is cheaper, but you need to know what you are doing. The designer of the hull should have specified the right /preferred grade. It today's world there are many more choices available. You use a mild steel, most often grade A or B, but some applications call for grade D. Check your blue prints and list of materials. Edit. Ok I understand. There are 2 ways to go. One is use a relatively cheep steel and use higher cost epoxy primers and paint, often requiring special surface preparation just before priming, or two, using a much higher cost steel with more chrome and nickel in it. Grades that begin with #3xxx These are weldable with rods that are available, and can be welded directly to mild steels. However these are 3X the cost. If your a Shrimper, I'm guessing gulf coast. I worked with several boat yards in the 70's installing spray urethane foam for insulating there holes. So I've been around lots of small yards from Florida to Texas. I'd call the nearest steel warehouse and ask what they would recommend. You might find what you want at a scrap yard. I've lucked out several times picking up 1/4 plate scrap$ and I'd bet the scrapyard guy would know just what you need. I know there are places to get what you need in Mobile and New Orleans. Good luck!
Q:How to solve steel plate storage
Avoid steel plates touching the ground, fixing steel coils, and using pads to reduce accidental or dangerous movement.
