Q:I dropped some candle wax on the carpet... How do I get it out?
Often wax on carpet is just on the very tips of the fibers. If this is the case you can just snip the wax off with sharp scissors. Just cut the very tips of the fibers. Work slowly. Don't cut a single millimeter more than you have to and pull up while cutting. This will help prevent divots in the carpet. Try your best to do just one or two fibers at a time...not a whole clump. Dissect any wax clumps first by cutting them in half or thirds, so that you separate clumps. This will work unless you have already used an iron or otherwise melted the wax further in to the carpet. Also...cutting the wax off will work on shag or plush carpet, but not Berber or loopy carpet. Good luck. -
Q:I really like this rug, but it's rather pricey!Anybody know of some similar ones?

Q:I am renting this house and the carpet smells. I don't know why...it's not dog or cat urine or anything like that. Do the synthetic fibers the carpet are made out of or the cushion under the carpet cause this odor...it really builds up if you are out of the house for a day or two...and what can one do to fix this...shampooing didn't work
I have read somewhere that should put bicarbonate of soda powder down, leave it for an hour and the hover it up. The powder should absorb any smells. Apparently it is wonderful stuff apart from baking it can be used in all manner of ways for cleaning. Good luck on getting it sorted
Q:whats the difference between the two? i've done latch hooking but im wondering if rug hooking is the same thing or close?
2 differences, first you don't get precut yarn with rug hooking, you use a skein or ball of yarn, starting from the back with your hook on the top, pull the yarn through, making a continuous line. 2nd the hook in rug hooking does not have the latch over the hooky part. I did quite a few latch hook projects and tons of fun. I just recently learned rug hooking while on vacation. At first it is a little harder, getting a even tension and so that the pile of yarn on the top is all even and not splitting the yarn. What I like better about rug hooking is not dealing with all those precut pieces of yarn. Experience: beginning hooker er um rug hooker
Q:I was wondering how shark steam mop performed on carpets. does it remove stains and spots?
I don't own one, but they appear to be designed for hard flooring such as tile and linoleum. There's only a cloth at the bottom where the steam passes through. I think you'd really be struggling trying to use one on carpet. A better alternative would be a carpet cleaner, Bissell and Hoover are both good brands. Expect to pay $150-300 and up. But for a budget, I love the Little Green Machine by Bissell which is much smaller. Don't try to clean an entire carpeted area with it or you'll be exhausted! But it's great for cleaning upholstery and for picking up spills on carpet, and doesn't take up a lot of storage space. Costs around $100 and you can get it at WalMart and many other retailers. Then if you need to do your whole carpet, you can rent an extractor for around $25 (check with your local supermarket, they probably rent Rug Doctor, etc.). You can get the job done in a day and not have a bulky machine taking up valuable closet space the rest of the year.
Q:I built my own box, sounds great but looks terrible without carpet.
simple.just get the carpet you like.buy some contact cement at local hardware.apply cement to both carpet and box.you can use a small paint brush, but buy cheap ones you can only use it once.allow to dry to a tacky finish.stick carpet and trim.be carful once its stuck its there to stay.also have you thought about having bedliner sprayed on or do it yourself spray liner.check atoumotive supplier or local bedliner co.
Q:Does anyone know where I can find a large area rug, mostly black with gold detail? I was looking at oriental rugs, but I'm not particularly fond of any of the ones I've found so far. If it was up to me it would be mostly black with some kind of golden chinese dragon in the corner, or just be asian themed. Any ideas!?! Please!
I am not sure whether one such rug may be readily available in the market or not. But you can easily custom order one with any of your local rug store. You can chose the colors, specify the size, and get the design made exactly as per your choice. You may also custom order one directly from rug making countries like India, Iran, Pakistan. This way you will get it way cheaper.
Q:I am currently building a house. We're almost ready for flooring. We've chosen to put carpet throughout most of the house, besides the kitchen, bath and laundry room. Anyway, we are on a pretty strict budget. I need to know what quality of carpet is best. Like, do I have to buy the super expensive stuff for it to last and stay looking nice? I know that carpets have different weights and densities, does anyone know I should look for when I begin shopping around? oh, fyi: it's about 2000sq ft.
presonaly I like low cut carpet that doesn't have the little stringy things in it
Q:How are those carpets differ from each other?
Commercial carpets usually have a denser shorter pile and a stronger, thicker backing that is sealed to be waterproof. Commercial carpets are not as soft under the feet but will usually wear better and stand up to a lot of traffic and cleaning.
Q:1) How often does the average person scrub their carpets?2) How often does the average person scrub their sofa/furniture?
I do both things once a year, usually in the spring when I can open the windows to let things dry out.
