Q:What are the mechanics for establishing professorial chair in a university?

A chair can be either the head of the department (as described by another answerer) or it can be an endowed chair position. A chairperson in the first sense is the head of the department, and is responsible for all of the administrative responsibilities in running that department. A chair in the second sense is a professor who is hired to fill a position in a specific area of study. Their salary is fully or partially paid by an endowment given to the university by a donor who wants to make sure that a certain subject is taught (and researched) in that university. It takes millions of dollars to endow a chair, and the chairship is usually named after the donor. For example, a professor could be the Claire Booth Luce Chair for Women in Science. That means that Claire Booth Luce donated a lot of money to the university in order to make sure that university would always have a professor who taught courses about issues of women in science. That professor might also be required to run a program that encourages women students to pursue study in the sciences. I hope this helps!

Q:Okay, so I need to find a high chair that I can buy two of that won't take up much room (my dining space is small). They don't need to be foldable because we are doing foster care and we'll have a couple babies. So they will be used very often. I need them to be tough and hold up. I can't have a pad that has to go in the washer. I need to just be able to wipe it. I want a good one. Not the $30 one from walmart....(that one takes up a lot of space! and the pad seems as if it may rip at the seem over time.) I like the Combi Breeze one.....But haven't seen it in person........what do you think??

We have the fisher price easy fold, its really nice as it reclines if they fall asleep. Has sholder straps if they aren't too good at sitting up yet and also has 7 different heights. It also has a removeable try liner so you can leave the tray in there while washing up the mess. I live in Canada, so I'm not sure if they sell it in the states as I can't find it on the fisher price website

Q:i have an old worn 1930's school desk that im using in my room for a desk. (its just really cool...)it's plain-ish and a dark finish wood, its pretty beat up so i was wondering what kind of chair i could buy to use that was new but didn't look out of place with it?please help!thanks.

I think you're better off using an older chair. The good news is that you can go to virtually any thrift store and find something that will work. You can even recover the seat with your own fabric--just pop it off, stretch the fabric over the edges and underneath, and staple it in place! The bad thing about a NEW chair is that it doesn't have the distressing and charm that the desk does, so it will forever look out of place.

Q:Hi,I damaged my two lower back spine discs (they bulged). Looking for a good specialized office chair outlets in dublin, pleasanton and livermore (California, East Bay) area. Anybody has any ideas? You might be better off getting a lumbar support pillow that works on any chair (this way you can put it in your car, take it with you to the office and use at home as needed). As for chairs, Office Masters are standard and have great lumbar support and are fully ergonomically adjustable. Wherever you work, see if they have an Ergonomics Program (call your H.R. dept) and if they do, request an immediate Ergonomic Evaluation. Talk to your physical therapist (or Dr) for actually recommendations for equipment, though... Hope this helps... feel better soon... Z

Q:There is a man at work who is of size and he broke my chair. Basically he tried to sit in my chair to use my computer, and the chair (which has a wood base) cracked in half. I need to get a new chair now and think his deparment should pay for it for letting him break my chair. We typically don't allow people of size to use their weight to cause property damage at our company. What would you do?

I think if you are so scared of being politically incorrect that you can't even bring yourself to say heavy or fat, then you are unlikely to have the courage to follow through on pursuing the issue with his department manager. The moment someone kicks back at you on it and plays the discrimination card, you'll cave. Best to just take the issue to your boss and say you need a new chair because someone broke it. If your boss asks you how it happened, just tell him the chair broke when Mr. X sat down. He can draw his own conclusions and decide how to handle it. Edit: No, I am not kidding. If you are too sensitive - too nice - to say heavy here, you are also too sensitive and nice to pursue the issue of blaming a person of size (lol) for breaking your chair, because it involves going to his boss and saying, however nicely, that he broke your chair by being fat. You're obviously not willing to take that stand THERE, because you can't even bring yourself to fully take it HERE. So, let your boss handle it.

Q:I'm starting to get into gaming. I'm not looking for a gaming chair, I'm looking for an office chair that's comfy. I have an xbox and I'm getting a desk for Christmas. I want to throw in an office chair too. Since I will be gaming on my desk, I will be sitting for long periods. I currently have this plastic Ikea chair that hurts my back after a while. I'm looking for the chair to be 100 dollars and less. I can't spend too much. I've seen there's mid-back, task chair, and a high executive. The high executive's are very pricey, but they look so comfy. Task chair's just look alright, Idk. Mid-back's look pretty comfy too. Thanks!

I suggest mid-back. But if you find a good deal on high executive then buy that one.

Q:So i need a new chair/recliner for my house, and i came up with this idea. I could get a car's front seat from a junk yard, and turn it into a chair. Why don't you whack the back end off of say a '57 chevy and use the trunk opening for a chair. You can build in your sterio on the back ledge will have lights on each side.
