- Hi Kevin.. A standard therapy for phobias is called systematic desensitization. It involves a series of closer and closer approximations. You'd first learn to achieve a relaxed state through visual imaging or progressive relaxation. Once you learned to relax you'd be presented, while relaxed, with a distant and relatively nonthreatening approximation of a chair. Perhaps simply saying the word chair.. or looking at a photograph of a chair. Once you can remain relaxed while seeing the image or hearing the word you'd be exposed to a closer approximation.. perhaps seeing a chair on the other side of the room. When you can maintain relaxation you might be asked to approach the chair while maintaining a relaxed state. Eventually you'd be able to approach and sit in a chair while maintaining your relaxed state. The principle is that you can't maintain two opposite states.. fear/anxiety and relaxation at the same time. You might try this yourself over a period of days/weeks but having the help of a psychologist is likely to make things work out more easily. It works. Regards.
- Q:We are ordering office chairs but our desk height is 33 3/4 in. from floor to counter top. Which is too high for our current chairs. I have pain in my elbows and wrists from typing with my arms bent up to the desk. I don't know how chair height is measured so I can't tell what height to order for proper height. - Office Chair height is measured from the floor to the highest point on the back of the chair. You might ask where ever you are ordering from what the distance from the seat to the floor is at its lowest point as well as highest point. Your desk height is a bit higher than a standard desk, which is 29 1/2 inches high. You might consider a task stool for your seating. You can order one that looks almost exactly like an office chair except it has a ring about the base to rest your feet on so that you can raise your seat up higher and not develop back problems from your feet hanging or not being firm on the floor. - Q:(I know this is a stupid question.)I've got these folding chairs. There are 2 rods that meet to form the back of the chair. When unfolded, these 2 rods rest on these 2 plastic parts that are screwed by hand into 2 hollow tubes. The hollow tubes are the top of the chair's back legs.Through regular use, a person leans back in the chair. This action gently sands down the screw-like section of the plastic parts as it rubs against the hollow tube. Eventually, the screw-section is gone, the plastic part stops working and the chair is no longer safe for use.Where can I buy these plastic parts? Do these things have names?

- Q:I hate this chair! There is only one control item--a lever, and I've never used it at all. Yet my chair is a different height every other week. This morning I found it so high, my feet don't touch the floor and I can't figure out how to lower it! I've moved the lever in and out and every which way, but the chair doesn't budge.
- Some old chairs adjusted just by screwing in and out of the central column. Since yours has a lever, this is probably not the case. If you have never used the lever, then we can't be certain what it does, but on most I have used, pulling up on the lever while seated should allow the chair to lower. Pulling up while off the chair should allow the chair to rise. Some I have seen also let you push or pull the lever to lock or allow the back to tilt some. If you have tried this, the pneumatic cylinder may be shot. Likely just need a new chair.

- so I may not be the best person to offer feedback, but here goes: 1. It would be a hassle to pick up and return - exactly the opposite of what people want from a massage. 2. It's just the chair, not a professional masseuse. So if someone wants a massage from a friend or relative, wouldn't they just lie down on a bed or whatever? I mean, at home there are so many more comfortable ways to get a massage than from one of those chairs.

- Not sure if you're a big antique fan, but if you are, you may want to try to look for a high chair from the 20s or 30s. These tend to be generously sized, so your son should be able to sit in it comfortably. I'm guessing that booster seats did not exist then, so high chairs were used until a child could sit in a regular kitchen or dining table chair.
