Q:how hot is white hot steel?
White-hot steel is ~1200º C (2190 ºF) and above, though the exact temperature depends on the steel alloy used. To give you an idea of how hot this is: 5500º C surface temperature of the sun 1536º C Melting point of iron 1063º C Melting point of gold 660º C Melting point of aluminum 427º C Surface temperature of the sunward face of the planet Mercury 290º C Temperature of a commercial oven broiler
Q:crossbow hunting with 8mm steel balls?
Despite what Billy Goat says there are Crossbows that fire both Ball bearing and bolts. As for any chance of hitting your target living or paper with and degree of accuracy I doubt your chances. Especially small game. Stick to using quarrels/bolts!
Q:carbon steel?
McMAster-Carr is a good catalog supplier of everything. Shipping for this stuff will be expensive. Talk to steel places near where you live. Carbon steel is not very descriptive. Structural steel is perhaps the most common, it has carbon in it, but people know it as ASTM A36 (36,000 yeild). You might talk to the steel people about your application to see what would be the cheapest for your application.
Q:Which gun to use for steel challenge?
I'd rather have the rifle myself.
Q:Steel or Nylon guitar?
You should start with a steel string guitar. Guitars with nylon strings are classical guitars and are used primarily for classical music, which is why you so rarely see a pop singer playing one. Don't worry about your fingers; they will hurt a little for the first week or two whether you have steel or nylon strings and then that will go away forever. You might want to consider using light gauge steel strings (or even extra light gauge) at first to make fretting easier. Good luck.
Q:does this density are same for all type of steel? re : 7850kg/cu.m?
90% of the steels used today are plain mild carbon steels consisting of iron with less than 1% carbon content and as such have a density of about 7750 kg/cubic meter. Some special steels which have a significant percentage of alloying elements such as chrome or manganese or other elements will have greater density bringing the steel up to about 8000 kg / cubic meter. There are a greater many factors influencing the exact density of a steel. Even for steels of exactly the same content of iron , carbon and other alloying elements, there may be a difference ( very small mind you ) in density due to work hardening. The difference in this case is due to movement of dislocations which become locked in the grain boundaries and this forms a more dense crystal structure. For this same reason, the theoretical density of steel (which does not take into account dislocations) is greater than the measured density of steel.
Q:How to clean all-clad stainless steel pans?
I bought a badly scratched-up 11 inch All-Clad Frying pan off Ebay for $23.00. I needed a large all-clad frying pan. I took it out to the garage and first cleaned it with an 8 wire brush on my bench-top polishing / grinding machine. Then I installed a 8 polishing wheel on the bench grinder. I used some polishing creme I use on car parts that I bought from Caswell s Plating. Auto polishing for your car will work too. The outside polished up like a mirror - as good as my new All-Clad pieces. Remember people. This is stainless steel. It s a tough, tough metal. You can work it like a piece of metal just as All-Clad did at the factory where they made it. It would take years to wear through the first stainless layer with a polishing wheel and mild auto polishing creme just as it would take a lot to wear through your cars paint. After-all; All you are doing is preparing an optical surface.
Q:How do I clean stainless steel?
All the stainless steel cleaners I've tried are fine for polishing, but they don't clean anything. A damp microfiber towel (the kind with loops like terry cloth) does a good job. You might be able to use plain water because the cloths are so good. Or mix up some dish soap in water and wet the towel with that. You can use windex if you want something more convenient.
Q:Does stainless steel watches rust?
Under certain conditions, even stainless steel will rust. They include: Exposure to some noble metals (copper/silver) in a corrosive atmosphere - and why stainless must be separated from silver or silver plate in a dishwasher. Stainless steel will pit if touching silver as many DW detergents are rich in chlorine. Under some conditions, and depending on your skin chemistry, if you wear a copper bracelet on the same arm as the watch, the surface of the watch will pit. If you commonly are exposed to some kinds of welding fluxes, if you are exposed to water with high salt concentration and you do not rinse off the watch after exposure, that can pit the surface. Stainless Steel is no more than corrosion-resistant, not corrosion-proof. Most of the time under most conditions, it is fine. But not all of the time under every condition. As it happens, what affects SS the most is any kind of electrolysis due to galvanic action involving halogen salts.
Q:Steel Building Kits...!!?
I put up a 30'x40' Mueller Steel Building from a bolt together kit 6 yrs ago. Fully insulated, 2 10'x10' roll up doors, 1 walk thru door, 3 windows, 2' overhang all around, and gutters. The building price minus the slab was about $9500. The only special equipment was a neighbor's large Farmall with a hay spike on the FEL that we used to lift the trusses in place. Then it was mainly cordless drills to put in LOTS of self tapping screws, circular saw with metal cutting blade, tall ladders, etc. Had help putting up the trusses and putting up the roof panels. Everything else I did by myself. Took about 6 wks, but that was only working weekends and maybe 3 evenings a week since that land is 30 miles from my house. Would have gone a lot faster with at least one helper.
