- Q:Be shampooed like other carpets or does it have to be cleaned another way? My wife thinks it has to be steam cleaned.

- The best way to keep a rug clean is to keep it from getting dirty in the first place. Removing outdoor shoes when entering the house (as people do in most rug-weaving countries) is a good idea if this accords with your lifestyle. Bare-foot or sock-foot traffic is much gentler to a rug than a hard outdoor-shoe sole (or spike heel), and leaving your outdoor shoes at the entrance to the house tracks in much less dirt.

- Provided you can get the same type of carpet, you can seem in a piece. Basically you need carpet seeming tape, new carpet, and a carpet seeming iron. You have to take a straight edge or a square and cut off the bad section. Cut to match new section with straight edge or square. Warm up seaming iron match the run of the new carpet with The run of the old otherwise it will look really bad. Lay seam tape half and half between old and new carpet. .. better yet it would be esier for you to look up how to seam carpet on youtube. Good luck
- Q:Which is more socially responsible: a machine made or hand made rug?
- Child labor is so frowned upon in the rug importing community, it's rather difficult to find products made with child labor anymore. Many higher end handmade rug manufacturers and importers actually sponsor schools and housing for their workers' families - see Rugmark and Care Fair. Machine made rugs tend to be of lower quality, and while I wouldn't necessarily say they put people out of work, they do require a lot of energy to run the power looms. Old fashioned hand knotted rugs made on wooden looms are pretty much carbon neutral, and if you buy the ones made with vegetable dyes, they're really quite ethical, relatively speaking.

- First off - Rugs/Carpet usually do not Wear out. Matting or crushing is what the consumer perceives to be wear, but it is usually a result of soil build up without proper maintenance. Your rug/carpet must be professionally steam cleaned once a year and the vacuum you use must be checked to see that the bead-er bar is functioning properly to beat at the fibers. Second - price will play a huge part in the size and type. Since this is for an elementary school and they probably do not have rug/carpet in budget, my guess is that you will be paying for it? Suggestion - go to a local carpet store and pick out the least expensive to your taste, have the store order to your size and then have it bound around the edges. You can pickup double side tape and use this to hold carpet flat. This may be your least expensive way. Good Luck.
- Q:How can I remove wax from may carpet?
- Do not use anything to heat the wax or your carpet, most carpets are made of synthetic material and will melt if overheated. If you know the carpet is wool, you can try to melt the wax, but if you do, it will just wick further into the fibers, making a bigger stain. Then you need specialized cleaners, turpentines, etc. Here's a much easier method: Take a bag of frozen peas or corn or ice cubes or an ice block and ice down the wax. Then use a dull knife (butter knife) to scrape off most of the wax. Chances are, this will remove most/all of it, as it probably wasn't all that hot and melty when it hit the carpet. Repeat until it's all or mostly scraped off. If there are still little bits that you cannot remove, I'd judiciously cut the carpet to remove those bits. It likely won't show, unless you've got Berber (closed loops) carpet.
