Q:scorched my carpeting. the lamp cord had a split and it broke leaving black scorch marks on my carpet.: The only way you can remove the scorch marks off the carpet is to clip the black scorch marks off. Very carefully so you don't clip more than you need to clip. Hopefully it was across the top part of the carpet threads. When we had our carpets installed the installer told me to correct some threads that pop out is to clip on them rather than try to pull them out. So when you think of it I guess it is about the only way you can fix the scorched problem. If it is more than just scorched you can replace a small area with an other piece where it doesn't show or matter. Best of luck to you and hope you only need clipping.

Don t give in if it brand new and has a warranty. Most carpet warranties go from 5/7/10+ years and go on a pro rated basis if the carpet is older than a year. Q:I already have my carpet and padding. We purchased a whole house of like new, but used carpet at a great price for our LR and BR's and we have carpet padding. We planned to pay to have the carpet installed, but we are now completely out of money and paying someone is not an option. I know it will not be as nice or last as long, but I am wondering if we can glue the carpet down? It's just a regular mid-grade plush carpet. I am also wondering if this can be done with carpet padding or can it only be glued directly to the sub-floor? I am trying to figure out if I could staple down the carpet padding and somehow glue the carpet to the padding? Any help/suggestions on gluing down carpet with or without padding would be appreciated. Thanks!: Carpet and a separate pad cannot be glued down . This system needs the tack strip on the perimeter. Any and all carpet can be just glued direct. Not a comfortable walk on regular carpet but it can be done. Getting the stretch on this type of carpet installation is hard for a DIY er. Glue direct commercial carpet is a different story. Plus consider what you d pay for glue ( not cheap) and reconsider having it professionally installed. Vinegar is used to cut oven cleaner cleaning solution making clean up easier, maybe it will work on the soap. My concern is how much water are you putting on the carpet? Saturating it could be damaging the under layer, promoting mold. You might consider cutting out that section, taking it to the sink or tub and running water through it until completely soap free, plot as much as possible out, let air dry and then use double sided carpet tape to reinstall it in the hall. They use carpet tape when installing carpeting when it must be seamed, so it's not a freakish idea.
