Q:I have put a new pressure valve and replaced both thermostat: If you have replaced the TP valve, more than likely there is a heating element shorted to the tank. This will cause continuous heating and high temp/high pressure...good luck.

Q:I need a valve cover gasket replacement because mine is leaking a tremendous amount of oil. The mechanic says it will cost about $269.00 plus tax. I wanted to make sure this figure was the average since I do not know a lot about cars. My car is a Mitsubishi Diamante 2001.: The gasket set is probably $ 20, so double that to $ 40..... 270 - 40 is 230, divided by 2 man-hours, which is the usually dealership minimum, gives $ 115 an hour. I DON'T THINK SO !!!! Unless you live in Hawaii where everything is expensive, that sounds steep.... real steep. Dealers around here get like $ 85 an hour, so two hours is 170, plus 40 is 210 bucks; Still killer money for the dealer..... I'd question that estimate ask if there is some extraordinary challenge to working on your car. It is possible there are accessories mounted over the valve cover that will have to be moved, or that's it's a canted V-6 with one valve cover tucked up against the fire wall. Be nice, smile, ask questions.... Maybe even have someone show you what has to be moved on your engine to get at the valve cover(s). If you're going to pay that much $$$, you should learn something, also.

Look for a Part Number stamped on the valve or on the box. After WW2 there were all kinds of manufacturers making parts for airplanes. Many were gobbled up by competitors, converted to manufacturing other products or went out of business altogether. If they start acting all dumb (and won't help you or sell you the part) then, go to a different dealer for the part. Another thing you could try is a used one from the junk yard BUT, it's been my experience that the rubber gets too hard and the PCV valve needs a lot of encouragement to be removed. Sometimes you'll damage the used elbow by trying to get it off of the engine or removing the old PCV valve to put in your replacement valve. That's why I recommend getting a new one straight from the source. They are pretty simple to change with ordinary hand tools and some mechanical know-how. You just pull the elbow off of the port that it's attached to on the engine. The valve will probably have a steel clip that goes around the hose at one end of the valve inside of the hose. You simply squeeze the clip with a pair of pliers and tug at the valve until it comes out of the elbow.
