6)Fuction,Advantage and Use

Q:I have recently put up some plasterboard (or gyproc) in my kitchen and need to seal it (as it's behind a sink and a cooker). I have bought a tub of PVA, but there are no instructions on the back for what ratio to mix it to apply to the gyproc to waterproof it... Any ideas?: It really all depends on the level of waterproofing that you require. PVA is a good bonding improver but is not recommended as a waterproofer although it is often used as such. PVA will re-emulsify when it becomes damp, leading to possible delamination problems. SBR is a very similar looking product to PVA, but is more expensive and better for waterproofing applications as it will not re-emulsify once it is fully cured. Alternatively you can go for a full under tile tanking system such as Aquaproof. These systems are designed to be used behind tiles is showers, bathrooms, kitchens in apartment blocks. It may however be a bit over the top for a splash back!

Q:it need pva on it if this is possible iam a trainee plasterer but dont want to end up goin over it with hardwall as im not confident enough: no problem karl ..done it many times ..pva the wall with a roller first and off you go ...

Q:Hello, im currently trying to take down my bathroom ceiling but am having trouble as the plaster seems to have chicken wire through it. im slowing prizing it away from the joists but its taking ages, has anyone any advice for me? i was hoping that the plaster would be attached to slats of wood that i could rip down, but like i said it seems to have been reinforced with chicken wire . . . .: It is attached to metal lathe and seems to be pretty tight. I wouldn't take it down unless you have to for some reason. We oftentimes laminate new wallboard over the existing plaster. Use construction adhesive on the back of the new wallboard and 3 drywall screws and screw through to the joists above. If you're almost to the point of total removal, you can use a reciprocating saw ( with proper eye and breathing protection) and run it through the wire lathe between the joists then pry down the separated pieces. In a bathroom, use moisture resistant drywall at a minimum or mold and moisture resistant.

Q:I recently had my bathroom refurbished and the installer put new plasterboard on the ceiling. I thought he would have skimmed it with some plaster but he tells me that they don't do that now and you can paint direct onto the plasterboard. As the outer coat of plasterboard seems to be a type of paper I am a bit worried about painting direct onto the plasterboard. Any views, hints etc.: Not sure what you are trying to say , but just paint it. Primer is over used.I was a painter and when I would buy products at the store they would all try to sell me primer. I would tell them I'm a pro painter and they would smirk and walk off. Primer is only nessesary on interior in a kitchen with cooking residue , and to cover dark or bold colors. Or to make a bigger sale to a naive person. Don't be a sucker , just paint it.Maybe two coats. Top coat will act as primer.

Q:My wardrobe has just collapsed and I need to install a new one as soon as possible. I am just placing a pole from either end of the wardrobe but need help installing it. Do I need to use special nails to fix wood to plasterboard (the wood will be on top and what I nail onto the existing plasterboard) because I have a feeling normal nails won't work in plasterboard. Also does anyone have any help hints on installing a new pole?Thanks for any help: Hey John,use 1 5/8 drywall screw's.I'm assuming your not hanging a 12' pole.Putting some glue (Elmer's Wood Glue) on the back of the holder & screw through it,& into the wall.The part that the pole will rest in/on.That outta hold it.

Q:I need to repair several plasterboard walls that have holes with plugs left in them. What is the quickest / easyiest way to do this: Is your wall lathe and plaster or sheetrock? Q:I have some old style plasterboard in my house and I was wondering if there is any good way to smooth it out so it matches my new drywall? I'd rather not have to take it down but if it comes to that i'll do it. I am going to be texturing the new drywall.
