Q:Structure of alternating current motor
AC motor consists of stator and rotor, and the stator and rotor is using the same power, so the current of stator and rotor in the direction of change is synchronous, i.e. the current direction in the coil is changed, and the direction of the current in the electromagnet, according to the left-hand rule by magnetic coil coil can continue to turn the direction. Go on.
Q:What are the advantages of AC motors?
The coverage of AC motor power greatly, from a few watts to several 101000 watts, even millions of kilowatts. In the early 1980s, the largest turbo generator reached 1 million 500 thousand kilowatts.
Q:as an alternative I want to generate electricity domestically at my home. I want to use simple motor as a generator. Instead of giving supply to motor I with attach a propeller to motor shaft and drive it.
Yes you can but 1.your properller speed should be little more than the RPM specified in the motor's name plate. 2.You may have to use some voltage stabilizers
Q:Ok basicly the harddrive motor i have has 4 contacts... I attached 2 wires to the most likely contacts i thought would make it spin but all it does is spin for like 2-3 seconds then it stops?? How can i make the motor spin? INeed it for a project because of its high rpm.
It doesn't work like that! Any motor needs the current in the coil to be reversed so the magnetic fields of the armature and stator stop attracting and start repelling. In an AC motor, this is done by the supply current changing direction. In a simple DC motor, this is taken care of by the commutator -- a set of contacts on the armature. There is *no* commutator in a hard drive motor. It's sort-of inside out, with the coil on the stator and the armature is a permanent magnet. There is also a fixed sensor which detects the magnet moving past it. The direction of the current is switched electronically using 4 transistors in a bridge arrangement. To make the motor spin, you have to build a circuit which reverses the current in the coil depending on what the sensor is seeing (and there are a few different types of position sensor). I would seriously advise you to find a different type of motor to use.
Q:what is the difference between a dc motor and an ac motor?
The okorder /
Q:Is the permanent magnet motor a direct current motor or an AC motor?
Because AC motors require a changing magnetic field so that the rotor can be rotated in accordance with the frequency of the alternating current, the permanent magnet can not be used in the AC motor. The magnetic field of a direct current motor can be constant, so permanent magnets can be used.
Q:Why don't AC motors use commutators?
The principle of AC motor of DC motor is differentDC motor running by permanent magnet and coil production function to promote Miguel rotor, reversing to coil rotor 180 degrees (equivalent to the magnetic field direction 180 degrees) to maintain the current direction of the coil and the existing magnetic field to produce the correct momentAlternating current machines operate with rotating magnetic fields, rotating magnetic fields depend on the direction of the current, and alternating current has this property, so there is no need for commutatorHowever, this is not absolute, the DC motor can also use no commutator, AC can also use the commutator, and fixed rotor design relatedThe AC motor is used for excitation, that is, the magnetic field is provided to allow the coil to cut the magnetic field lines
Q:I want to buy a 55 kw AC electric motor. Now 55 kw = about 75 hp.On ebay i see AC motors for sale that say .55 kw. Is this the same? If not how many horsepower is this?
A 55 kw motor is a major motor. Usually this motor is only seen in industrial applications because of the amount of electricity it takes to run this. Even all electric homes only are wired for 25 kw worth of capacity at best. You would need 3-phase wiring and a multiple transformer pole out at the street to run this big motor. If you are looking for this to be used in an electric vehicle, they supply the huge quantity of electricity with huge quantities of batteries. Batteries can deliver a large amount of amps for a rather short period. In electric cars they use a huge inverter to change the DC battery power to AC power for the motor. But they also design the AC motors in electric vehicles to be run by batteries and to have regenerative braking, so the motor is a different design than you will find in a normal industrial AC motor. Like the other guy said, .55 kw is only 3/4 hp , the kind of motor they use to run a drill press or band saw.
Q:I am trying to wire up a salvaged AC motor for a lab project. It is a single phase 1/3 HP 115 volt 6.9 amp motor with four wires coming out of it and no schematic... It would seem that the wires are somehow paired as they come out of the motor, T0 and T5 are together, and T1 and T8 are together. The motor has a set of brushes so I assume it is a universal motor. Before I go hooking it up all willy-nilly like, I was wondering if anyone could shed a little insight on this problem. Also, I assume that this motor is reversible, so if anyone could give me a little help on that I would be grateful.
T5 and T8 would indicate, to me, that it is a split phase type motor, t5/t8 being the start winding, which you run in parallel with the run winding. Which way depends on the direction you want the motor to turn. If it has brushes, it could be a repulsive-induction start (where the brushes short the armature to start, and open to run, you adjust the position of the brushes to change rotation), a universal where the armature and field windings are series, or a straight DC PM motor (T0/T1 may be a thermal cutout).
Q:i have an old 1kw vacuum motor that i want to power a bike with, i think its AC but im not entirely sure. how do i control the speed of motor so i can accelerate slowly? iv heard light dimmer switches only work on DC motors?thanks for your help :)
Use a fuse in series with whatever you apply so that the motor is safe. If it is acdc, then applying a dc will also get it going. You can convert an ac of 12V to pulsating dc if you use a bridge rectifier rated for say 200V and 10 amps. if vacuum motor is rated for less than 1.2kW. If it is not an ac dc motor, most likely the fuse (say 15 amps) will save it. Get somebody who knows all this, just to make sure you do not have to buy a new vacuum motor..
