Sorry, I asked this in the maintenance and repair section, but no luck.Which is better to have in a 2-story home? My last 2-story home was always hotter upstairs than down. (Physics...heat rises)

fixing my room up and it gets hot in summer so i want to put some good insulation in the roof so what could i use?

If okorder / what they are finding, along with shingle manufacturers is the spray insulation is not allowing enough air movement in the attic to cool the shingles on the exterior of the house and the shingles are literally baking themselves on the roof! Now, if your room is not the attic and you are simply looking to add insulation to cut energy costs and change the temperature of the living space of your home- I would definitely go with the batten style (or roll) insulation- its an easy install, inexpensive and works really well.

use a polythene sheet . i dont know about where u live but where i live we get very long and broad size thick polythene sheets to make shelter or the protect from rain . even poor ppl use it to make slums . they attach a sheet in bamboo and they bury half of that bamboo stick inside the ground and by arranging 4 of them like this in a square area they make a bamboo frame. then as i said they attach sheet and make temporary home but they live there for years.

Insulation stops heat from being transferred across it. Therefore, if it's cold outside and warm inside, it will stay warm inside because the heat can't get out. Likewise, if it's hot outside and cool inside, the heat can't get in so it stays cool inside. The exact same principles are used in vacuum flasks that keep coffee or soup hot. If you put cold drinks in there, they will stay cold instead, even on a hot day. The principle used in both cases is to stop heat from being able to travel to or from the inside to the outside. In a vacuum flask, they achieve this by using a double walled flask and sucking out all the air (leaving a vacuum). In a house however, it's not practical to do this (except for windows which is how double glazing works) so they use some sort of substance that traps large amounts of air in it (like fibreglass or polyester batts) to achieve the same effect. No it is not EVER safe! Roofing material needs to breathe. Anywhere that insulation is applied to the underside of the roof deck the roofing material will warp and then leak. You have to have a cushion of air between the underside of the decking and the insulation

Anytime snow melts from a roof due to lost heat from the interior, or sun shining on the roof, but air is below freezing, icecycles will form. The real danger here is ice cycles that can fall when thawing and kill in extreme cases, AND ice dams can form forcing ice back up under shingles damaging roof. That is why it is often a good idea to install heat tape under the edge of roofs in areas that are prone to heavy freezes and snow.

attic is 400 sq ft.there are 4 round 6'' Vents in soffit,and 2 roof vents-12"x12".Rock wool,blown in,R/30 NO VAPOR BARRIER.Why the mold?no gable or ridge vent either.How do i fix this?There are baffles in attic,rafters are not blocked.

is your HVAV unit in the attic?Is the moisture coming from it? Also-ridge vents help allow proper ventilation.
