I have two deisel engines and two tank feeds, how can I connect the genset (4KVA) . I am conerned when the engines are idling or even running they will start the genset. I do not want to put an extra tank.Thank you
If your tank has another port on it for a fuel line that is where you hook up. If not go to the supply line at the tank and put in a T fitting and then a shut off valve for each engine. Run the supply line to the generator from that T. You will also need a return line from the generator that you can T into at the return line from the engine at the tank. Many people that convert from gas to diesels run into these same problems. Often a fitting is made up that is put in the fuel fill line to allow for the return line. The generator supply and return lines will be smaller then the engine fuel lines. Running the engines will not cause the generator to start.s

Unlikely to get something that runs - or any sort of lifespan in diesel for that money. Google the generic Chinese stuff and take your chances. Apart from a lot of deaths due to not being earthed, gensets are very dangerous should any carbon monoxide enter the area that people are in and many deaths and accidents are attributed to that each year - the more this is looked at the greater the risk appears to be, particularly on boats.s

I have a natural gas line, and gas furnace, so I only use about 1500 watts at peak times, so I figure a 3k watt generator will more than cover my needs.SOUND is a huge factor. I have the worst neighbors in the world and I really need something quiet. I'm looking for something with less than 60 ddb.I have seen a lot of propane generators that look good, but I dont know if they can be used with natural gas easily. I think so, but would love to hear if thats true, and they dont have the standby plug feature, which I need to save my fish tank, any know if this can be easily changed by a skilled electrician?Thank you. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

A generator is usually powered by a diesel or gas (petrol) engine which powers an alternator to produce mains power for hours provided it is topped up with fuel. A UPS uses a large battery and a high powered inverter circuit to produce mains power but is not expected to power equipment for very long, just long enough to shut them down safely without loss of data.s

Phase is 3Φ 4W, which means three phase, four wires. Three wires for each of the phases and one wire for the neutral. There are two ways to connect 3 phase generators, ywe which looks like the letter Y (3 or 4 wires) or delta which looks like a triangle (3 wires). Voltage is 380/220V, which means a wye-connected generator with two voltages available. For heavy loads like heating and motors, a line voltage of 380V, measured across two of the phases, is available. For light loads like lights and outlets, a phase voltage of 220V, measured across a phase to neutral, is available. The use of 380V means smaller conductors can be used. When the generator spins at 1500rpm (revolutions per minute), the output frequency is 50Hz. N 120 f / P P 120 f / N 120 * 50 Hz / 1500 4. The generator has 4 poles per phase. Since it is an even number, the generator is a synchronous generator. Prime is the Apparent Power S in kVA that the generator set is capable of providing for an unlimited number of hours per year. In this case 600kVA. But as a Standby Generator (Emergency) operated less than 500 hours/year, the apparent power S is 660kVA. Current is 1003A. This is the rated current that can be supplied to the building at 380/220V. S √(3) V_LINE I_LINE I_LINE S / (√(3) V_LINE) 660kVA / ( √(3) * 380V) 1003A Power factor 0.8 lagging, which means at worst case the loads attached to it can have a power factor greater than 0.8. Power factor P / S. P S * pf 660kVA * 0.8 528kW The Real Power P or W loads the generator can supply are 528kW. So it can supply 5280 100W light bulbs, for example. If power factor is 1, 660kW could be supplied. There should be an electrical switchboard close to the generator, which will have labels showing how power is fed throughout the building. Everything else is specific to the device (Model, Serial, etc). Probably too much information for you, but when you are trying to understand something too much is better than too little.s
Do you have more insights into this? Japan builds great cars, machinery, tools and high-tech products. Their bullet train is known for almost zero delays in decades. Yet with the Fukushima nuclear power station we have flawed tsunami protection in a location known for powerful earthquakes and tsunamis for at least centuries. I guess no one should be surprised by a ca. 50 feet tsunami at that location. It looks to me like such an obvious blunder. Am I mistaken? - And I mean no offense to the great people of Japan who so valiantly dealt with the terrible tsunami crisis that I admire this very much. Thank you.
Yes you are mistaken. The Fukushima station was designed to withstand average tsunami that had occurred in that area. However the tusnami that hit was much larger than any seen before in that area, or in recorded human history for that matter. Even if you could design a facility to withstand a 200 or even 500 year disaster, eventually you'll encounter something even larger, and then you'll be right back here whining about why did they only design the structure for a 500 year disaster, blah blah blah. Furthermore, such a facility would be prohibitively expensive and over engineered. Was it a risk to only design something to withstand a once-in-a-century event? Sure, but there's no such thing as 0% risk.s
I need a specification of the inverter and battery that will work for 5-6 hours with around 10-14 laptops connected to it. Can any one please help me.
You would need to be more specific. Multiply the watts of one laptop power supply by 14, then get a more powerful invertor. e.g. 14 x 50 watt laptops 700 watts, get at least a 1 Kw invertor. It is difficult to predict how long a particular battery will power an invertor, a 1 Kilowatt load will draw a huge current, about 50 amps from a 12 volt battery. If at all possible you would be better off using a petrol or diesel generator and extension leads, as the size of battery needed would be enormous, you would need a no. of 12 volt large 12 volt batteries joined together, or one battery and one x 100 watt invertor for each laptop. You might also consider using a battery to power a DC to DC convertor for each laptop. For example one laptop could use a 12 volt, 50 AH battery and a 12 to 20 volt convertor, this will probably run a 50 watt laptop for 6 hours. I say probably because the only way to know for sure is to try it out. For the price of 14 batteries and 14 convertors you can probably buy a really good silent 1 kw petrol generator. This will be smaller, lighter and probably safer than 14 x 50 AH batteries.s
If it is that equation then if i ran a 500 gallon diesel generator under full loadsaying at about 3.5MPG will i get 1250 hours to get 52 days?!?!?!? or am i off on equation or my theory????
Conversion? They are calculating two different things. The reason something would be measured in work hours instead of mileage is for the fact the equipment does not in fact travel under its own load or it spends more time at a stand still. Work hours tend to be used on a lot of construction equipment and other things that stay stationary for long amounts of time thus creating wear on the unit though it is not moving and adding miles so they use hours to calculate how old the unit is or when it needs to be serviced next. You can never get an actual equality from these two different units as one measures time usage/fuel and one measures distance/fuel if you were calculating to find a run time for example. ***additional*** There would be no equation for MPG that you are looking for if converting from hours. Are you looking for how much fuel is consumed over a length of time? That's the only way to calculate fuel consumption would be over time vs. over a distance as MPG is.s
