FAQ

use trends within the periodic table indicate which member of each of the following pairs gives up one electron more easily:a) Mg or Al (magnesium or aluminum) b) Cadmuin or Be (Beryllium) c) S (sulphur) or Aluminum d) Te or O (teryllium or oxygen)
a) Magnesium b) Beryllium c) Aluminum d) Tellurium The Effective Nuclear Charge is the force that the nucleus exerts on it's last electronHence, the stronger the force, the harder it is to rip off the electronThe Effective Nuclear Charge INCREASES from left to right, within a period, and from bottom to top within a groupSo the elements further to the left and down in the periodic table are more likely to give up their last electrons, since the effective nuclear charge is weaker.
What lies did bush & company tell Americans, to justify invading Iraq?
Here's my list: 1Iraq was responsible for the September, 11 attacks 2Iraq and al-Qa'ida were working together 3Iraq was seeking uranium from Africa for a reconstituted nuclear weapons program 4Iraq was trying to import aluminum tubes to develop nuclear weapons 5Iraq still had vast stocks of chemical and biological weapons from the first Gulf War 6Iraq was obstructing the UN weapons inspectors 7US claims were supported by the UN inspectors 8War would be easy 9Iraqi oil would pay for the warI am sure there were others, but these are the ones I remember.
I have a Craftsman router table that I have had for several yearsWhen I use it black marks show up on the woodThe table is aluminum, I think, and it seems like the finish has come offIs there some way to stop this marking of the woodI thought of painting it, but the paint would probably wear off and I'd still have the same problemIs there some kind of shelac or varnish that might work on aluminum?? I don't want to replace the table but if worse comes to worse?? The black marks are hard to sand offAny suggestions would be helpful.

Can you catchh a napkin on fire with alumiumn foil and a aa battery an dhow does it work?
HmNot sure there's enough juice in a single AA battery to pull it off, but I've only accidentally set things on fire with lantern batteriesAluminum foil is an okay conductor, but as current flows though it there will be heat generatedIf you connect the two ends of a battery with a strip of aluminum foil, it will start to heat upIt might even heat up enough to set fire to paperThe heat happens because as the current flows through the metal, it bumps into atoms and loses energy in the processThis bumping on the microscopic scale is seen as heat by usDo NOT attempt this experiment unless you have set it up in a place where catching fire won't be a problemI'd suggest doing it on a frying pan atop a stove, with a fire extinguisher ready just in caseI'd also suggest keeping the battery and napkin far enough apart that you won't actually set fire to the battery itself.a burning battery can do nasty stuff, depending on the chemicals inside.
