Chemists, how does concrete react with aluminium?
- Embedded aluminum roof flashing, aluminum water stops, aluminum electrical conduit, introduced aluminum powder (sometimes used to foam concrete), or embedded structural aluminum shapes may all corrode in concrete or mortar. In all cases, a reaction that forms aluminum hydroxide and hydrogen gas occurs, and may cause expansion and cracking of the concrete or mortar. The common use of calcium chloride (or other alkali compounds), and dampness of the concrete increases the reaction rate. Usually, coating the aluminum with bituminous paint, impregnated paper or felt, plastic, or an alkali-resistant coating will prevent or sharply reduce the corrosion.s
Could two pieces of aluminum sheets be welded together?
- or you can use file to rub back and forth, and it needs lots of practices or you can't weld the sheets.because aluminum sheet cann't be tightly welded to tin, it's hard to weld two pieces of aluminum sheets by common welding methods.it's hard, the aluminum sheets are oxidized soon after polished by abrasive paper.and you need to cover the new polished area with soldering paste and learn some operating skills.owing to aluminum sheets' high oxidized speed, you need to wipe the aluminum sheets with soldering paste and soldering tin and rub them with large power soldering iron, then the aluminum sheets will be tightly welded to tin.so two pieces of aluminum sheets could be welded together.s
Which is better, aluminum or steel water bottle?
- Aluminum IF you get one that is anodized on the inside (like the Sigg models). Otherwise it will corrode if you fill it with acidic liquids like fruit juice (which will also leach the aluminum out of the walls and there are some who believe ingesting aluminum isn't good for your health in the long run.) There are also lightweight stainless steel bottles that are pretty good, but somewhat heavier.s

Aluminum foil a pure element?
- Aluminum Foil is about 80 - 85% pure aluminum. But most aluminum foil products have been laminated with other substances for strength, looks etc. Aluminum Foil is close to being a Pure element. A Pure Element is a substance with only one type of particles in it. Anything on the Periodic Table of Elements, is a Pure Element. eg. Tin, Oxygen, Gold. A Compound is like H20, it is the product of a synthesis reaction. A Compound is a pure Substance but not a Pure Element An Alloy is a Solid Solution of 2 or more metallic compounds or elements. An alloy is a Homogeneous mixture. Not a Pure Element. Hope this helps.s
Soldering aluminum cylinder, strength?
- Whether that weld will be OK depends on the diameter of the cylinder. The force on the weld will be equal to the operating pressure time the radius of the cylinder, with the wall opposite the weld have an equal force. Divide that force by the thickness of the weld to figure the stress. You want to have a safety factor of about 3. As the Bernzomatic has either a brass or aluminum head, which would melt at the temperatures which are required for true welding (melting metals so that they flow together), you will be performing brazing with a Bernzomatic. I cannot comment on the strength of the brazing bond. The thickness of the brazing metal deposit depends on the strength of the brazing alloy, which I also cannot comment on. 6061 will melt at 1206°, which you will not approach with the Bernzo kit. A blowout of a metal cylinder at 60 psi could be pretty ugly. I suggest that you befriend someone who has a TIG welder and get their help. A properly welded 1/8 thick cylinder could handle about 660 psi with no problem. If you create a lap joint, using an outer strip of aluminum, and then band your cylinder with stainless steel hose clamps, you will be relying upon the brazing only to provide a gas seal. The strength would come from the hose clamps. You still need to do some calculation on forces involved. A 1/2 wide stainless hose clamp will probably hold back about 240 lb. of force with a comfortable margin of safety.s
