Q: is metal frame doors are bettor tha wooden frame doors?: yes try going for powder coated aluminum finish for doors or windows. durable and less of taking care as for wood need to paint or polish them, metal get corroded though aluminum is expensive but worth it

Q: The door is wooden, but the door frame is metal (I found out when the screw wouldnt go in no matter how I hammered it). Is there a way to install a hasp to put padlock on? (Are there screw drivers for metal surfaces?) Or is there any other way to have the door locked without having to installing a cylinder lock?: Well, for starters, you don't use a hammer to drive screws. You won't even have much success in wood that way, never mind metal. And you don't use a special screwdriver to go into metal. You use the right screw, and you will need a drill or screw gun also. If there's metal around your door frame, it's probably a sheet of it, not solid. You drill a pilot hole and then use a sheet metal or self-tapping screw which can be driven using any screwdriver after the pilot hole is done, or you use a corded drill or a cordless screw gun to drive a self-drilling screw into the metal. You must use a power driver for that, and one with a bit of strength to it. A cordless screwdriver won't do it. You have to drill fast for some seconds so the head of the screw can drill its own hole. Once that happens, the threads will catch in a few very quick turns. Be aware of that because if you're not ready your hand and wrist can get wrenched around pretty fast as the screw drives home.

Q: It is the largest size they sell, and has the plastic knob you turn and the metal rods hold the door in place.It is annoying as heck when I have tons of dogs to rotate and I have to sit there and put it back together again. Is it going to be better/cheaper to replace the door or have a painter repaint it? I assume a professional will prime, etc.. Can they actually be repainted to look good?: It may be cheaper to have it painted. It may sound strange, but check with a auto body shop, the automotive paint is durable and they'd be able to give you colors to choose from and have it done rather quickly. They will take care of the rust and prime for you, also.

Q: I dont need it so much for security, just keeping my toddler inside!: absolutly. just have to use self tapping metal screws found at any harware store or wal-mart/kmart. just have to use a screw gun DO NOT try to do it by hand.
