Q:The screw holes in my metal storm door are stripped and was wondering if puting in a dowel and a screw would fix the issue?: Once you strip out a metal surface such as whatever it is that screws into the metal strip, once they're stripped out the only two options are to get larger screws or to fill the cavity with an epoxy, let harden, drill then tap and screw it back together. Tapping a hole means putting screw threads into it. Since the sheet metal the door is made from has been stripped out it's likely you don't have enough material left for the screws to bite into. By epoxying the hole, and not just covering over the hole, you have to inject it into the cavity, it will require a large amount of epoxy, you give the metal something new to bite into. Using larger screws will work but now you have more obvious screws to look at. My neighbor had a storm door issue where the screw pulled out. So he put a larger screw. IT pulled out. Eventually he had such a large hole and screw it looked like krap! Someone gave him a new door and that's what he uses now. But the door latch is broken. That's why it was free. The OLD storm door? I fixed it. It's on my garage. I used the epoxy method. That's how I know it will take a lot of epoxy to fill the hole in. After filling the hole I drilled tiny holes, just smaller than the original screws. Looks like it is supposed to be that way. Now he wants his door back. Should I give it back to him?
