Q:plastic bottles in our oceans? PLEASE ANSWER?
With a simple plastic water bottle in our oceans can case a problem in our food chain. You might wonder why if a fish eats the plastic bottle it can choke and die. If there is a fish there is a bigger fish that eats the tiny fish, but since the ting fish the dead the large fish has no food now and it will die of starvation . Now since the large fish died a larger fish now has no food then that fish dies... etc . That just for 1 bottle imagine for a 1000 or even more.
Q:plastic food wrappers safe?
Plastic food wrap aka Saran is known as PVDC (polyvinylidene chloride) in the plastics industry. The melting temperature is in the ball park of 165 deg C. So heating it up to 90 should be no problem. Moreover PVDC is FDA cleared for use as a food contact surface as a base polymer, in food package gaskets, in direct contact with dry foods, and for paperboard coating in contact with fatty and aqueous foods. They put a lot of work making sure any plastic that touches food is safe regardless what you do to it.
Q:Plastic Bottles and cancer. ?
The hoax email(s) claim to have come from Johns Hopkins University; as you see from the links this isn't true. You can also read a statement from Johns Hopkins on the issue.
Q:seriously: paper or plastic.?
PAPER! No doubt about that. I always try to get paper or no bag at all. I usually don't even buy enough things to have to NEED a bag, so I try to do the world a favor by recycling, by not taking plastic bags at all and saving it for someone elses' use. You can also recycle the paper bag instead of keeping a million plastic bags sitting in your home. Oh and another idea, you could always bring your own grocery bag (around $1 at Trader Joe's), that way you don't even have to have that dilema about paper or plastic =O!
Q:good plastic to make jewelry?
plexi glass i think
Q:can plastic be renewed?
Plastics can be made to look nice, but not be as strong as when new. Many plastic deteriorate in sunlight or over time. You cannot repair that.
Q:Softening heated plastic?
It will depend on the type of plastic. Basically most plastics are amorphous, that is they have little or no crystalline structure. This gives them a broad range of melting or soften points. When you heat a plastic and cool it slowly it give the polymers more time to align and they become more crystalline. Crystalline structures tend to have narrower melt and softening points and hence tend to brittleness. This is a general comment, as I said the properties will differ depending of the plastic and the glass transition temperature. More info is required to be more specific.
Q:does plastic silverware leech?
All plastic leeches some chemicals back into the environment. However, since plastic water bottles are made of a cheaper plastic (one that is easier to break down), plastic silverware probably takes a longer time to do so. The problem with re-using water bottles is that they ware down, where-as plastic silverware wouldn't do this is the same amount of time. The best suggestion- for you and the environment- is to avoid these plastic products altogether. Aluminum water bottles are reusable and don't leech any chemicals. Also try to avoid plastic utensils when possible!!!
Q:similarities and differences between glass and plastic?
I don't believe that to be true
Q:Removing melted plastic?
Hi Aidan. If it's just one or two metal fasteners, try using a good sharp knife and spiral your way down, cutting out the debris as you go. If the fastener is itself plastic/nylon, you may be hosed, as it's still worth a try, but you have to be much more careful. Morbid curiosity - what happened? Hang in there, and Happy Holidays.
