- Q:ok so i have decided to use paint and varnish remover to take off the color of my wood vanity and re stain it. is it easy to chemicalyy take of te old stain? i bought the bottle from home depot today and ppl who work there told me it was easy but i just wanted to know if any of yu has ever done it before?
- I have seen many projects where people have bought wood stripper. And they all look the same ...unfinished. What you see on TV is not quite what happens in real life. Oh sure it works good on flat surfaces.But almost all wood projects have corners and nooks and crannies. This places are hard to get to and have excess paint in them making it harder to remove it all.I do believe in most of the commercials I have seen on TV I would swear the piece of wood they were stripping had just been freshly varnished then painted which makes the paint come off even easier since the surface is new with no scratches or dents for the paint to sink into which also makes it time consuming and difficult to remove. Good luck and don't feel bad if you give up like everyone else and paint your project half way through.
- Q:My sister and I have an ongoing argument. She cleans with Comet soft scrub liquid. I think it's horrible. She gets me to come help her with heavy cleaning a few times a year and I spend alot of time trying to remove the nasty, gritty film left behind where she used the Comet. She says it's "hair spray film" left behind. I've cleaned surfaces where hair spray is used, and I know the difference. Any opinions out there on the Comet Soft Scrub? I say it is damaging the surfaces of her bathroom, she says I'm nuts. Who is right?
- You haven't seen anything horrible until you've had to clean my older brother's house and shower after 7 years of no cleaning! He has been single for many years and is very set in his ways. He has many valuables so he doesn't trust any housekeeping services. I use Tilex for soap scum, Tilex for Mildew, Lime away or Comet spray for hard water deposits and rust. And a whole lot of elbow grease but he always gets his cleaning deposits back from his landlords after I'm finished. Oh and comet is a bit gritty and leaves a film but hairspray is obviously sticky so you should be able to tell the difference. So stop fighting girls and share a bottle of wine after you've finished cleaning and be glad you have one another. I swore I would never clean up his filthy pig pen again, but after he nearly died of a brain anurism last year, well I just finished cleaning his house this weekend need I say more? - Q:We are renovating our bathroom, and have already torn out the old vanity. We have a new vanity with similar dimensions, but with a granite countertop and 8" spread faucet, instead of the one-piece unit. We need to hire a professional to install this, but the question is should ONE person be able to do the entire job or will we need to hire it out in three pieces1. Cabinet installation2. - Come on. it is only a simple job. Get and do it yourself. I do not understand how people are so afraid of doing things for themselves. To answer your question it is only a one man 2 day job. So what ever the rip off price is in Indiana X 2

- Q:Can anyone tell me how to install a granite bathroom vanity. Do I need to put plywood before I put granite ?
- Most bath room vanities are sized such at the granite counter top doesn't need any extra support unless it is cantilevered. We just had granite counter tops added to our master bath and the 3/4' plywood sides were more than adequate to support the granite. Each vanity was 40' wide and 23' deep with supports for the granite on all four sides. We had undermount sinks installed at the same time. It is best to have the supplier of the granite responsible for that work. They need to get the cutout correct and the placement of the inserts for the supporting screws. That is assuming they are going to use the inserts rather than just epoxy to attach the sink to the counter top. We have a piece of granite on our kitchen island with an 18' cantilevered section on each end. In this case there is a rectangular support for the whole piece of granite made from 1' square steel tubing. This assures that the ends will not break off.
