If they use growling vocals, distorted guitars, tremolo picking, blast beats, etc. then that would make them Death Metal. That goes to other sub-genres as well. Also, a lot of 'true' metalheads claim that Disturbed, BFMV, A7X, Slipknot, etc. aren't Metal because they're elitist c*nts. Don't hang around with those idiots.
