Increasing demand of better quality steel and subsequent use of high performance basic tundish lining material boosted researching and developing of active basic tundish powders assuring high covering, insulating properties and low corrosion activity. Moreover, effective NMI (non-metallic inclusions) absorption capability is provided by specific viscosity and surface tension of molten slag layer in direct contact with molten steel.Plant experience in using these active basic tundish powders gave improved steel cleanness.
1. The thermal insulation covering agent is made of low thermal conductivity materials, such as expanded perlite, expanded graphite, etc.
2. In addition to the low thermal conductivity material, the heating covering agent is added with a certain proportion of heating materials. Under the heat of the molten metal, the oxidant provides oxygen to make the reducing agent oxidize and heat, and prolong the solidification time of the molten metal in the riser.
3. In the case of different thermal insulation covering agents, the mouth shrinks to a "dish-shaped flat bottom or a hemispherical bottom, and the riser necking shape is approximately U-shaped.
4. Significantly prolong the encrustation time on the top of the riser, so that the molten steel in the riser is under atmospheric pressure for a long time, which greatly improves the feeding efficiency of the riser, which is beneficial to the floating of the gas and inclusions in the casting, and achieves the purification of the molten steel. The purpose is to obtain sound steel parts and reduce the scrap rate.
