- Q: i bought a record player at a garage sale. it is the kind that has to be hook up to a sterio (no speakers of its own). it has the two cables to hook up to the sterio but no power cable. will the power come from the sterio or did i get ripped off?

- This most likely isn't a windows 7 problem at all. It's more likely there would be some damage to the internals of your power cable at some place. Usually if there is, it's in the connecting end or the power conversion box. I would try a replacement cable first if you can. If you don't' have one, take it to a pc shop and see if they can use a test adaptor. If theirs works, it's the adaptor. If theirs doesn't, it's then more likely the power port on your pc is damaged.

- no, that would be a waste of your time. having a fatter ground won't mean anything if the power wire is the same. you would be better doing the power wires only. problem with that is, there will be built up current that can't dissipate fast enough before damage is done

- Could you install it without a fuse. Yes. Should you install it without a fuse. No. If your power wire ever got shorted out it would melt and catch of fire. Their have been cars that burned to the ground because they did not have fuses.

- not sure about your car, but ford mustangs are a huge pain unless you drill a hole (i know, I cut myself many times trying to install a buddy's system), if your wires are small enough, you may be able to slip it through the firewall for a clean installation, if you dont care about a clean install, you can run it up the hood and in the door XD (a friend of mine did this as well, looked horrible, but I'm a fan of clean installs) I prefer to drill holes if I cant find a hole in the firewall big enough, but be careful where you drill, its unlikely but you may end up hitting something like the transmission, engine block, or something fragile. Hope this helps.

Could I get away with just using this one for a couple days until the right one arrives in the mail? - You have a TV that draws 9 amps from a 117 v.a.c. power line? That's roughly a kilowatt. You could run three 55-inch LED sets for that, with power to spare. Or does your TV operate from a 12-volt d.c. source, like for a boat or RV? That would make more sense, 108 watts total. In that case, using the wrong power cable could be at least a theoretical hazard. I'd wait for the proper cable. If you'll update your post with the make and model of your TV and what you're powering it from, you might get a better answer. Your location would also help, at least which country due to different a.c. power systems. ----------------------- Followup, per your added details: now I get it--you have a power cord that's rated at 7 or 9 amps, not a TV that draws that much. That's entirely different. Your TV/DVD combo will use a maximum of about 150 watts, which means it will draw just a little over one amp. So any power cord you can find that fits properly and is rated at something like 3 amps or more will be fine.
