Well just like electricity entering your house from the power company, the power from The power from your gas generator is the same thing. How much you run the generator is the same as running your light Or treadmill. However since power from the company is more steady and subsides, it's cheaper to be on the grid than to generate your own electricity especially with today's high gas prices.
Q:I would like to find out if a product exists which permits remotely using a mechanical switch to power cycle a diesel generator. Maybe one that has an IP which I could connect to or uses RF. Literally just turn on/off the power without interacting with it physically.

First off, all trains are electric, the only reason there is a diesel engine is to run a huge generator that supplies electricity for locomotive. but in a straight electric, first you would notice it is quiet and smoke free, no diesel egnines running. Second it has to have a way of getting electrictity to the motors while on the move, the most common and effective way is with overhead wires, the track will have lines directly over the center, and th elocomotives will have a device mounted on top that pushes gently upwards against the wires to conduct the electricity down into the control compartment of the locomotive. Look for the overhead device on top of the locomotive, very easy to spot.

Diesel Issues: Regular oil changes - about 2:1 to a gas-fired generator. Diesel fuel is may gel in very cold weather - you may have to use a kerosene mix. Diesel fuel has a shelf-life such that you will have to add fuel stabilizers and run out the fuel at least three times per year (more in a humid climate) to prevent breakdown. You will have to change the fuel filter at least once per year. If you run out of diesel and cannot get to it - you are out of luck. Which leads to liquid fuel storage issues, shelf-life and so forth. Diesel fuel is a bit over twice the cost of natural gas as a fuel in this situation. Go with the natural gas unit. It is new, has a warranty and you _know_ that it will have no hidden flaws. Now, if by Gas you mean gasoline - go with the diesel unless you are in a very cold climate. Hands down.

Q:Hi. I'm thinking about getting a Kubota Diesel Generator. I have read in many places that the Kubota Diesel engine is the gold standard of Diesel engines. So I'm not worried about that. What i need to know is this, is the generator as a whole dependable? Will over loading it for a few short seconds when the AC compressor kicks in burn it out or shorten its life?Any other insight would be appreciated.Thanks for your answers
Kubota diesel plants are being used more and more in industry, replacing some of the old standbys like Kohler, Perkins and even Caterpillar in lighter applications. I don't think you will regret buying a Kubota.
Q:I know that they could re-surface to re-establish a normal supply of air but what about when they were under attack and couldnt surface for long periods of time,wouldnt those engines use up a lot of the oxygen inside the sub?
Diesel submarines that were used during WWII actually have two different types of engines. The main Diesel engine, and an electric one. When a boat submerges they use the electric engines only, these usually only have an hour or so worth of power. Once they resurface they fire up the diesel. They are stuck on the surface until the electric engines are re-charged by the diesel. Prior to the advent of the nuclear submarine (which can remain submerged almost indefinitely), the submarine spent most of its time on the surface like any other ship.
